Noob here

Hi all,

I am picking up a 57 plate 2008 Clio 197 on Wednesday or Thursday. Took it for a test drive and all seemed in order. I have quite a long car history as I change cars quite a bit. I am looking to keep this car for a long time though as it ticks all the boxes. Nippy around town, ok on fuel and running costs.

I have PX'd a 2008 Evo X FQ300 SST for the Clio. The running costs of the Evo is just stupid. Came back from the ring only a few weeks ago and still in shock with the fuel bills I came back with. 3 Laps on the ring and bye bye to over 3/4 of a tank. That is GTR running costs.

I have a few friends with Clio's and they seem to have a lot of fun in them.
Its my first French car apart from my first ever car which was a Clio 7 years ago. It was a mark II clio 1.2 (I think) Still miss it.

So is there anything I need to keep an eye out on a 2008 197. I have read that the Gearboxes are a little iffy in 2007 but got replaced late 2007 is this correct? Also the leaking rear shocks and cracking manifold.
Any pointers would be great and hope over some time I will learn enough to help some other noobs out.

Cheers,

Murray.

beware when buying a car of that year that the cambelt is due to be changed when its 5 years old or 70,000 miles. With the cambelt change the Aux belt and Water Pump are also changed. Possibly looking around £600 at a dealer.

Unfortunately :worried: :chair:

Welcome to the site! Pics of Evo required.

Welcome to the forum

Have a look in N0ddies well compiled guide here for common things to look for

I did hear about the expensive belt service, what specislist garages are there in the southwest (Gloucestershire) area or near by. I think my car is due this because of the age and coming up to the mileage.

Firstly, Welcome.

For a £5 you can be a paid member and with that you get discount to all the traders etc and access to the section on the forum, also able to view more of the site, all the how to guides etc, well worth it. I'll let someone else point you in the right direction for a specialist in the southwest, as i'm from the east mids.

Look forward to seeing pics of both cars!
what have you gone for?

Will

I can safely say, while I moan about how much fuel mines uses in reality the running costs are pretty good on the Clio for what you get in terms of track pace.

Welcome to the fold

I will join the member section. When I get off tapatalk and on my computer at Work. I've got the 197 Clio 2008 on a 57 plate.

So roughly how many miles do you get from a tank of fuel on the 197 with a bit of mix driving. The Evo I was lucky to get 215 miles from a tank of fuel so expecting a bit better from the Clio

Never pay much attention to mine, but I got ~370 miles out of mine the other day with a little spare, so maybe 400 at a push.

It was mostly motorway driving (Barnsley - London - Barnsley) so averaged 33mpg. I usually sit around 27/28mpg though.
