New - clio 200

Hi,

I'm Andy from sheffield.

Having stalked the forum for a while I thought I'd introduce myself. Bought a 200 around 2 months ago but a holiday / house move prevented any real progress.

I've been flirting with ideas but can't really find a path to follow. I like the idea of lowering, nice wheels and side skirts / splitter.

Apologies for the rubbish picture (wheels need a clean).

Welcome to the club. Don't worry about clean wheels, I'm of the "I'd rather drive it than clean it" school of thought. (That's made me unpopular on here!) I do, however put a high value on maintenance. Oil change every year despite averaging only 5000+ miles. Servicing too. I keep the car acceptably clean as opposed to immaculate!

I'm with Johnny. Mines a daily so i get to drive it pretty much every single day of the year. It was made to be used and i hugely enjoy doing so. Although its gets its share of cleaning and love.......

But 'maintenance over mods' would be my mantra with these cars as stated. Infact i would never sacrifice routine stuff for aftermarket add-ons with any car !

However: If you can afford / want / enjoy doing both; then these must be about the most modifiable cars in the World ! Search through the 'Progress threads' section to get some ideas perhaps (?)

At my rapidly approaching half century and almost as many cars since passing my test 33 years ago, I'm often shocked at cars I've viewed with potential purchase in mind to find exactly the opposite to what I would also suggest is paramount too, maintenance before mods. People have clearly spent huge amounts on upgrades, but miss services, ignore worn brakes, suspension linkages, fit cheap or miss matched tyres etc.

197 / 200 are fabulous cars standard, keeping them running as Renault intended can cost a bit, but absolutely worth it. If I had the money or was allowed to spend it on modding once it was perfect, I probably would. However, it would have to be stuff that couldn't be seen or heard to avoid marital upset.

100% agree maintenance over mods (especially with kids in the car). Marriage last year prevented any progress on the VTS and my wife agrees with the mods I've already chosen (lucky!!).

Maintenance such as brake discs / pads, possibly the lower ball joints and a good detail will come before anything visual. I had the cambelt/ dephaser done at point of sale alongside a good service so shouldn't have many issues.

Must admit my surprise at the lack of a cambelt change at the dealer, I'd assume that's a staple for any car dealer? It would be for me.
