My R27 #93

I picked up a R27 last week after trading in my Mk3 Megane DCi for it. Done almost 600 miles in 9 days and I am loving it

The wheel is a bit tatty, I am looking at replacing or re-trimming but will go through pulling all the top layer off first.

As it was

One of the number plate lights didn't have the connector going to it so I started taking the bumper off but managed to get to it with just the diffuser off. While I was there I sheared a bolt for the diffuser :glare: I used the opportunity to clean some bits though

No real plans with it, the bolster on drivers side needs repairing and the carpet has a hole in it near the heel pad so will get a replacement carpet too. I will get the wheels refurbed at some point but the main thing I am going to do is enjoy it.

So it has been a while so I thought I had better do some updating!

So first up was the manifold, suffering from the usual failing flexis so it was out with the old and in with the shiney new Toyosport version!

Old vs New

Bit of heat in there

Then after a bit of reading on here, there were some reports of engines running too rich causing bore wash when the pre-cat was removed without remapping it, so I decided to get it on a dyno to check. It made 191bhp and 152lb/ft and that was just on standard 95 ron, it isn't too rich so I am happy with the results!

Then some bad news. Driving along the A46 near Leicester over the Easter Weekend, it was about midnight. I notice something flying towards the car in my peripheral vision, then a massive thump! When I got home this was the damage

IMG_8850.jpg

The damage is too harsh to have been a bird or bat, so I think it must have been a decent sized rock. There wasn't any other vehicles about when it happened so nothing was flicked up. A survey of Google Maps shows an underpass where the incident happened so I think it must have been some kids/chavs up to no good! The side needs respraying now because of it.

Moving on, leaving work one day and hear a clunk as I pull out of the parking space. I do usual wiggle of the steering wheel and everything felt fine, when I got home, stick my head under the arch to spot this

Drivers side spring has snapped.
So I picked up some replacement springs of a local member, this was the state when I swapped them over. The spring was actually in 3 pieces, picture shows the comparison to a good one

After fitting the manifold I was getting the usual knock which the Toyosports suffer from so to solve it Powerflex comes to the rescue.

First off the upper torque link bush

After

The improved the knock, but it was still there. So I went for the lower torque link insert too.

Knock has gone completely now and the car drives much better. In gear pick up of acceleration is loads better as is gear changes. Very little vibration so it is a very worthwhile upgrade

I noticed one of my rear tyres had suddenly gone really flat, turns out I had a puncture. Went to the tyre place for a replacement and then the locking nut key turned to cheese! So bit of head scratching later, the originals were taken off and a new shiny set fitted

Next up, I was fed up of the faded black upper front grills, so I whipped them off and gave them a few coats of Satin Black. The front end looks loads better now

Then I went out to get some new pictures

Although I only got the 1 picture before this happened;

The spark plug in cylinder 2 decided being a spark plug wasn't fun anymore.

Replaced it (and the other 3) and everything is hunky dorey

Next up rear brakes, nothing special just OEM parts

Last off just a picture dump. I got a DSLR camera earlier this year so have been trying out some techniques and stuff

That is now up to date.

Next week the car is going in for the belts to be done and also track rod end replacements. Then I will be looking to get the bodywork sorted in November hopefully

Looking good so far! 191 bhp is impressive as standard, only 3 bhp off the offical figures. Shame about the damage done by the rocks. I presume you've sorted it out now though? Pics from the new camera are really nice. I think i'll be getting my hands on a DSLR too soon.

Great pics mate, the 5th from bottom especially. Amazing what a difference a good camera makes.

Needs a bit of level adjustment to really sing though!

No the bodywork hasn't been sorted yet. Hopefully will get it done in Novemeber so before the bad weather really starts to set in.

Thanks, I'm learning all the time both with the camera and with PP. My aim is to get pictures good straight off the camera so PP is only required for small tweeks

Quick before and after. Just a level adjustment and a bit of sharpening.

It sounds like you've had the same sort of luck I've had recently with stuff going wrong, my front spring snapping being one of the same! That's pretty nasty with the damage, very strange how that's happened... If it is kids lobbing rocks, then it makes it even worse!

On a more positive note  the photos are very good, I like them a lot. And the repainted front grilles makes a huge difference doesn't it, I was well chuffed with mine when I did the same  Good readout on the dyno too, I'd be well happy with that.

Great looking car you've got there.
