Mountain Bike help

"whos roy?"
In a bid to get fit, save the planet and keep the clio as a weekend toy I'm thinking about getting a mountain bike.

I'll be doing about 20 miles per day plus weekends away etc, so want something fairly decent. Been looking at getting a rigid frame with lockable suspension and disk brakes as it'll be a commute through some woods, onto a canal then a bit of road. Budget is about £600

Current favourite is a Scott Aspect 20

Anyone got any other good suggestions? I'd be very grateful:thumbsup:

Im a giant man

So id say have a look at the Revel like my mountain bike or even the Talon.

These are my bad boys!

I've just been through the same thing of buying a new bike. My budget was £650, and narrowed it down to the Giant Talon 3, Trek 4500 or Marin Bobcat Trail. All are had tail with adjustable and lockable front sus and hydraulic discs.
I opted for the Marin, is £649 but comes with a LIFETIME warranty on the frame! It just felt right when i rode it. The trek, from what i've read it slightly more road orientated and the Giant is a very good all rounder and the Marin is slightly off road orientated.
Best thing is to get yourself a shortlist and then take for a quick ride round the block and pick the one that feels best.
Also, look into cycle to work schemes, there's a lot of money to be saved if your company does one. I saved 43%

Saracen all the way for me, i've got a manta 2...awesome bike not a mark on it even after binning it badly in a forest lol. Glad to hear that a cycle to work scheme is actually working

Ah, errrr........you see the thing with that is that i dont actually cycle to work. I just used the scheme, lol. Its a 100 mile round trip for me every day taking in the M25, and dont really wana cycle on that,

I had the same choice to make about 2 years ago with the same requirements, I was initially looking at the scott's too but tried a few out at rutland cycles and came away with a specialised rockhopper comp. The scott frames are very long and handlebars are low, they're set up to have you say in a racing position (arms stretched out and head down low) whereas almost all other frames are a more upright position which is definitely better unless you're competing.

Very happy with my specialised and as you'll probably know, they have a great reputation.

Also, remember you can normally haggle a bit with new bikes. I couldn't get any money off mine but did get a few things thrown in like some proper pedals which they also fitted for me.

Yup have to agree with specialized, had 5 specialized bikes, ranging from specialized vegas fat boy bmx to a stumpjumper fsr, and I swear by these bikes, never had any problems with them whatsoever

Look at Cubes. Much better spec, with way better components for the same priced bike.

Ive got a Cube Ltd Team 2011. Beautiful bike.

I looked at buying a Cube but wierdly there's no more stock for this year already for the one that about £650 anyway, very low volume make. Good if you can get one though.

Wait till the new year, my 2011 Ltd Team will be for sale for somewhere around your budget. And its a £1k bike.

Ive got the talon 2 2011 model, it is a great bike with pretty good spec altho the front fork does let it down
