Michelin Clio series

The literature seems to suggest that the spec' pack starts at £3,000... If you manage to get through to anybody could you find out if that's a base pack as it reads and if it is could you ask what other packages are available please? It'd be interesting to know and might be helpful for anybody else who's looking to get into it.

No i dont yet, i have called the office and was given a little information, then i was given a mobile number and each time i have called it has gone to answer phone or no response, so i will call again tomorrow and hopefully get the answers i need??

Any questions anyone think i need to ask ??

I would ask if you're allowed to change any bushes to polyethene or solid as it may give you an advatage. And if you can change the geo on the car or if it has to remain standard. Although I'm sure they'll have guidelines.

I personally would like to know what suspension parts they're changing.

Will the suspension from the rally car fit the updated (smaller hole) suspension tops of the later 200?

The rally car (R3) was only ever the 197 shape.

Well, i spoke to the Organiser and to be honest he has not got many if any answer for anyone yet (registartion fee £750 + vat and entry fees not sure ? ? ? i told hime the Mazda entry fees £300 - £400 and he says somewhere around there??? not much use really is it)
Had quite a lengthy chat and when i put the questions to him he was unsure and said in time we will have some answer and move forward from there???
He has spoken to someone in ref to the roll cage, but nothing 100%.

Not really much help for me, i am stuck between continuing to race my Mx5 MK1 which is sat on the trailer in the workshop, if i'm going Clio i will sell the Mx5 if not i'll keep it, as everyone knows it wont sell overnight ( as always the Ma5da series fills up fast and it has been said on the forum they have over 60 entries already) or do i hold out and and go with the Clio? ?
I love Clio's and always have but i want to know what i can and MORE importantly cant do to the cars, i would like to go and buy a car today/tomorrow(you know what i mean) so i can get it ready/do all the jobs to make it ready to enter, i dont want to wait till the last minute and then find something out and think thats not for me, lets go racing the Mx5 again???

What other series can i race the Clio in if i do buy one?

if i get anymore information i will post it up, he says he will keep me up to date?

You'd of thought they'd have it sorted by now of wanting to launch it this year!

IMO for what its worth, you should do one more year in mx5's and see what happens with this Clio series. Then after the 2013 season you can take a view on it based on whether the Clio series was a success or not. If it was and you want to enter, then it gives you a whole winter (guess October to March/April) to sell mx5, buy clio and make it race ready.

sounds like they have released the news before actually fomulating exactly what is available or allowed

Yep sure does.
I asked just a simple question, what wheels are allowed will they be a control wheel (eg all cars in class running the same wheels) he said any wheels or maybe 1 make?
The suspension he did say would be from the R1 rally car "he thinks" they have costed up a kit including , shocks, top mounts, struts, anti roll bar, but again not 100%
I asked about poly bushes, and again not sure, but then said if it made them better then yes??
I was also told that some Clio cup teams have customers who would like to race but cant afford the Cup prices so this would be a cheaper way to offer them somewhere to race?

I'll be interested to see how the costs spiral regarding this series.

The running of an actual cup car is not cheap, the boxes need regular rebuilds for a start.

That's why the ones up at Palmer sport have different sequentual boxes in them as well as braking systems.

Seems like a good idea tho, I'm sure with the amount of novices it will attract it'll be pile up gallore.

Clio Cup Series - Sporting Regulations have now been released for this Series and have been emailed out to all those who have registered interest.

If you would like to receive a copy via email please register your interest via email to:

Please state which championship otherwise you may get Formula Renault!

If I were you I'd hold onto the mx5 for another season and see what happens come 2014...I'm sure there's several others on the sideline to see what happens with grid sizes for the championship.
Hopefully the series will provide large strong grids that will provide good racing! Personally I think the mx5 series is one of the best championships out there, good close racing and very well organised....if only more clubs took a few pages out of their book!!

I have got mine, its like a phone book
I also now see we need to have a control seat, harness and a list longer than my arms and legs of other items needed to be up to spec:thumbdown:
I can see the costs to get a car ready are going to be around the same as the car itself ? ? ?
The cage has to be the Safety devices cage which at the moment is not even made and i have been told it will not be until around the 2 or 3rd week in April, 1st round is 11th may, plenty of time to fit a cage and get your car ready  i think they should have sorted all of the details before now so people could atleast have a chance of getting a car ready, unless most the people who will race the series don't have jobs to go to.
Cheap series i am thinking not, and i think this in itself will put a lot of people off even thinking about it, i now know i am :w00t:

It'll probably be sabelt seats and harness as that's was cup race cars were installed with so wouldn't want to change that for previous cars.
Clearly this all seems like a very last second put together series from the organisers!
I'm assuming they are doing what they done with clio cup that all parts have to come from R Sport with the homologation sticker.

The price for the total kit to convert your road car is going to be £3751.59 + vat :scared:, i think a bargin, the list is below :scared:

No mention of a roll cage in there?!

Do they say if the suspension has a version for the later 200 cars?

I had a PM yesterday to say the announced 3k kit was now around 5.8K and that the 'free' test day at Snetterton on April 24th has now become £480.. Typical Renault

Roll cage is a Safety device made cage and wont be ready till the 2nd or 3rd week in April and is i think form memory £985 + vat and only available from Mark fish racing?

If the cage won't be ready till 2nd or 3rd week of April it doesn't give much time for the first meeting in May?

To be honest i think the prices have now spiraled from a starting price of £3000 to now nearly twice that, i think i may look for other places to race the Clio

I am collecting my car from Safety Devices on Wednesday as I just had a cage designed and made in conjunction with Mark Fish, so it's obviously the one they are using for the series.

So will get pics up for people to see.

Costs are spiralling rapidly!

Are you going to be racing or just wanted a cage fitting to your car?
