Micah's Deep Black 200

Arrrggghhh!
What a day. Had the morning free and had been preparing to do my rear pads and disks for weeks, if not months. So today was the day. Read the How To guides on here, all the gear ready and set about taking off the O/S caliper. Easy peasy, cruising along, thought I'd wind back the piston before I do anything else. Wind back tool just keeps turning the piston no matter how much force I use. Do a quick Google - wind it out a bit then try again. Ok! Same thing, except it's now further out of the caliper.
I am close to tears and getting aggressive, the wind back tool is shit, I'm spraying WD40 under the piston seal like it's going out of fashion, then before I know it, I've wasted 3 hours on making zero progress and giving my left hand and wrist a good work out!
Lunch was a sombre affair having done this...

What a jeb end I am!
I return from lunch and have an epiphany - the gf could hold the caliper on an axle stand and I'll put all my weight on top of it and get some aggression out.
SUCCESS!
I then put it all back together and pretend nothing has happened.
Thankfully my mate is reconditioning the set I bought a while back so I'll get them fitted next weekend.
I ache all over and the palm of my left hand is red and blistering, but I can't help but laugh at the nightmare I've unfolded for myself today [emoji23]

like reading my own memories..exactly the same thing happened to me too..took me 2 days to sort it and lots of elbow grease..aint doing it again ever!!!
glad you have a spare set..best thing to replace the calipers :thumb:

Bloody hell Micah. 10/10 for effort on the brakes.
Shame it didn't quite work out and you had to get a female to sort it for you:grinning:.

I'm sure that will come up in conversation somewhere down the line...

Ohhhh, so much fodder in there for an inappropriate jibe

But on a more serious note, that must have been a total nightmare  and a bit of a panic I imagine! And exactly the sort of situation I can see myself getting into one day! Massive kudos to you for doing the work yourself though, Micah, it must have been satisfying when you finally got it done!

After the recent post about how sweltering the Clio cabin can be in the summer, I got the car booked in for an aircon recharge at Kwik Fit for Saturday morning. I was concerned the condenser was knackered but a pressure test indicated no leaks (I later found out that the test would actually close any holes so the coolant could just piss straight out of it over a few days anyway!)
Before and after were shocking; 23+ before, 8 degrees after. It's been 3 days now and still holding up well, so I'm hoping it was just well overdue and nicely lubed up (ooh err missus ) with half a kilo of jollop in the system.

I think I jinxed the weather though, it was beautifully sunny when I arrived and apocalyptic when I left, though I do love a good storm.

More updates (hopefully) next weekend folks [emoji6]

Nice cheap out on the A/c Micah. Happy days!

Seen some photos of that storm. Did get pretty lively:excited:

To think that all it took was half a kilo of jollop... the cure of many ills! That and lots of lube. Lots and lots of lube...

Epic steering wheel porn Micah. I know I've already said this, but I'm saying it again, hats off to you for getting full alcantara.

Cheers Mes, thanks for your words of wisdom else I would have gone pretty stock with it. Not sure whether to use the Renault Sport trim on this one, would be a shame to mark the wheel.

That's something I've been thinking about in preparation for when we do ours. It looks pretty damn good without I think.

Maybe do a test fit and see what you think?

Mate, you wouldn't say that if you'd seen my...

knees!

:excited:

I know the retrims aren't 'expensive'..... but you surely want to show them off to the fullest. And the area the badge covers - has the most visually appealing stitching.

Whacking the cheap, plastic RS badge over the top would be like getting Recaros trimmed in leather and then covering up with a cheap nylon cover......
