Low battery warning and battery light Clio 200

I have low battery warning and battery light appear on the dash after a period of driving. It's very random sometimes it will show the warning message and sometimes it doesn't.

I have replaced the battery and alternator as advised by local garage and still have the same error message.

The voltage has been checked all all seems correct.

I've search he net and i can find other who have had the same issue but no one seems to have posted a solution.

Any advise welcome

Same Issue's (there you go you've found a lost sibling) ..... Haven't replaced a bean to date as even though it keeps flashing ive had no starting issues and its never died on me...

Do your lights Dim, then brighten when the Low Battery appears on the dash also..??

Thanks for the reply knew I wouldn't be the only one. My lights don't dip and other than the dash warning light no other symptoms

Hi did you ever work out what was wrong? Mine is doing the same thing

Mine does the same too, usually after about 20/30mins driving. Completely random. My lights do occasionally dip and revs rise slightly too just for a few seconds. Alternator has been replaced and the battery is fine. No start up issues at all. It’s pretty annoying!

Mine has the same thing and I’m in the process of booking it in to the garage. This is how the specialist described it to me: These clios have a ‘digital’ alternator, so rather than the alternator sending the same current to the battery all the time (or based on revs?), the 200 requests current based on what’s on in the car (wipers, lights etc). So if you have an alternator changed for a ‘normal’ alternator the battery will be being charged, but the car will bring up a warning when it request’s more current than what the alternator can provide, hence why it comes on randomly. I will add the correct part number when I find it! (On mobile currently)

Update for you all on mine... I sanded the earths on the battery to clean them up and bam. No warning lights all day today for about 100 miles. Hopefully it's fixed

Glad I stumbled across this post!
Can anyone shed any light on the battery warning randomly coming in and going off?

I replaced the battery and then alternator when it became more frequent and tried to die on me at idle, now my battery voltage fluctuates from 12V to 15.5V at idle and my latest flicker with the voltage drop. It’s not a genuine alternator but supposedly a ‘quality alternator’.

Any replies welcomed!

Looks like nobody has ever fixed this then...

Mine is still the same, different alternator and battery and even tried to add an extra earth incase it was that but still no change.

I think @Jake Snedden has managed to fix his by replacing with a genuine Bosch alternator 8200660043, I’m sure he’ll confirm by posting here once he’s done testing it out!

*UPDATE*

Right, so I now have a Genuine Bosch 8200660043 alternator on the old girl after trying a non-genuine supposedly ‘good quality’ copy. Said alternator caused voltage fluctuation issues (12V-15.5V), lights dimming and flickering, and the dreaded low battery warning!

I am happy to report that after a 21 mile, 22 minute drive, voltage stable at idle, headlight beam nice and solid and...no low battery warning!!

My fix was:
Genuine Bosch Alternator, main engine earth and inner wing earth leads removed and terminals cleaned up, both ends of charging loom removed and cleaned up, all parts of battery cables disassembled and cleaned and battery terminals themselves cleaned.
All wiring also continuity tested whilst isolated from the car just for good measure.

I don’t want to get ahead of myself after one drive, so I will drive the Clio daily for a while and report back in a week to hopefully report no further issues!

Sadly the warning has come back a few times, spoke to Renault today and apparently the alternator is the 8200660043 and the correct Amps and Voltage spec but isn’t the one needed according to the Renault parts database and my VIN!

I have a Renault supplied alternator coming out Wednesday under a slightly different part number which I will try. Will keep you updated and see what I find

So the third alternator in 2 weeks is now on, supplied by Renault and hopefully the correct one!
I will drive her daily and I hope not to have to report any bad news.

I had this issue, mine started on the drive home from a track day. Initially I replaced the battery but this did nothing, I then changed the alternator with a used Bosch one and it fixed it for me. Fingers crossed your new alternator fixes it too..
