I love Westies, they will do exactly what you ask of them, but only if they also want to do it and then only at a time that suits them.

Our youngest (left) was my son’s dog, he left her with us when she was about 4 months old so he could go on holiday. She’s been with us since, almost 6 years now.

We lost our boy on the right a couple of months back. Young for a Westie at 12.
