Later RS197 'box

Hi!
Please can someone tell me whether it is possible that a March 2007 RS197 could have been fitted with the later gearbox (longer 5th/6th gears)? My 'new' car seems to rev quite sedately at 70mph...was expecting/fearing far higher engine speeds.... Could the 'box have been replaced perhaps?
Thanks... :thumbup1:

tbh there isnt a great deal in it.
mine revs just shy of 4k at 70mph with the old box.

mine is just shy of 4k at 80mph in 6th so i would imgaine i have the newer box

think its 4k at 70.? got me thinking now. maybe it is 4k at 80.:confused1:

i was pretty sure it was about 3.5k at 70, got me doubting myself lol! i know its 2k at 40mph in 6th and it is very linear rpm to mph.

if you work it out at -

old 197 = 19mph for every 1000rpm

new 197 (g/box) = 21rpm for every 1000rpm

dont forget you will have variance for speedo and rev counter accuracy and of cource tyre wear will effect the readings

Thats the same as mine Jase but from the thread above yours it would make it a longer ration box!
Talk about confision lol

When I asked last time I was told the revised gearbox sits at 3,200rpm @ 70 and the older box sits at 3,600 @ 70, with the new box it the needle should sit slightly below 3,500 and the older box slightly over.

My car is a 58 but on the alarm documents it has 2007 stamped as the date :confused1: my car sits at 3,600 @ 70 so I have the old gearbox so don’t go by registration when comparing as most time it might be wrong.

Now I am really confused...lol

I guess my real concern is whether or not the older box - which has caused a few warranty claims - is a weak likn in an otherwise well engineered drivetrain? My warranty only runs for another 3 months and I'd hate to find out a week later that my gearbox is shot!?!

You can ask your dealership, give them your car id number and they can look after it on the dialogys (imho) and tell you what kind of gearbo you have. As far as i know the TL4 024 is the new one.

if anything mine may site slightly over 3.5k. its definitely the older box in mine as ive had it since 06.
the change in mine is still as good as the day i bought it, so not that much of a weak link

the old box revs about 6k at 180 kmh (tested in germany  ) whereas the revised one goes about 200kmh at the same revs in the 6th gear ( seen on youtube )

oh and I have used the car plenty with a lot of "trackdays" and autotests and the box is just fine, I guess them boxes are a mystery... some have them exchanged at very little mileage and some just keep going...

I dont think they aer so much a weak link, just annoying on the motorway at 70mph which is why they were changed (I think)

Don't worry about it. Get yourself on a B road and work the box and see what its like.
