Is your Clio your daily ride ?

How many of you guys have a daily 'other' ride ?

I'm a 2-wheeled man really Chris. I'd like to get my garage and shed back so i could get some space for some bikes again. [Ive always enjoyed building projects / doing up bikes and selling on etc too]. I've had 30+ bikes in last 20 years......right now is first time without one kicking around since i was about 20 (?).

And to be brutally honest it would just be nice only funding 2 people (Me and the wife) not 5 !

Admire a decent bike rider, watch some on YouTube and they are very impressive, but it's just not for me, I like my comfy seat and air con too much!! Well perhaps when the eldest moves out you can replace him with a bike!!

Oh yea im a good rider. Infact im great in a straight line me...... :smirk:

pmpl on swapping sprogs for fireblades !

Really, you surprise me! I've got a soft spot for Abarths, but never having driven one all I can go on is that with the (essential?) essesse upgrade they're far too firm & bouncy. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em in theory & myself put fun over ability, but what you say goes against everything I've read. Like I said, I've never driven one but your opinion surprises me.

Basic features make it better such as having electric mirrors which make parking easier and fuel economy. It's also much easier to park with better steering and shorter length, then having the low down torque makes it so much less stressful to drive in traffic as you don't have to keep it in a specific rev band.

It's surprisingly more refined too.

Congrats on the wee one coming. Your first ?

My boys are 14,16 and 20. Trying to get rid of them ASAP - so i can actually buy and enjoy some toys !!!

yeah, first one. The Clio is just too much to be used as a family daily!

Absolutely enjoy my megged 197 as a daily, only downside is i do about 20k a year, a well, atleast i get to enjoy the car!

Would've been better to tuck it away and sell it in 20 years but what's the fun in that?

I'd love to own (or at least to ride once) a fast bike. I'm not sure I would like to live with one as a daily, but for weekend blasts it really does appeal!

Any scary stories from your riding days @sevenfourate ??

Love my Clio as a daily commute, a smile guarenteed on every journey (and a fuel stop mind)! I can't see myself selling my Clio, when the time comes to think about a family etc, if I can afford to do so I'll store it and take good care of it! My uncle did the same with his MK1 Mini Cooper, worth a mint now!

As for bikes I wouldn't trust myself not being firmly grounded with 4 wheels, I take a Caterham with a Hayabus in it instead

I have use of a company car, usually some form of brand new Citroen or DS, usually diesel, although at the minute I've had a 1.6 THP 165 DS 3 Cabrio for the last few months.

Also got my track Clio 172 to fall back onto, and the 205 GTi to use when it's finally fixed.

Got a daily Yaris mk1 diesel myself and I'm really glad I did. In fact, had I known beforehand I would have done it from day one.

The Clio can be easily used as a daily (done it for 4 years) but really no point in London with traffic, speedbumps, cameras, potholes etc. It's not an enjoyable experience and most importantly you are adding wear and tear for no actual reason.

If I was living outside London and my daily commute was a nice B road then things would be different:smile:

Having a whinding 7 mile B road as my daily commute I can confirm that everyday starts with a smile haha!

Im not so sure you know, I have some country roads on the way to my work to and fro, and if I'm honest, I'm a bit sick of them by now. Don't get me wrong, a new winding B road and I'm blasting down it but the same old one I'm a bit tired of it...

Im pretty sure the TT-225 Quattro owner i h̶a̶r̶a̶s̶s̶e̶d̶ followed home tonight would agree a Clio RS is a decent B-road blaster......

Haha!! I've been behind a TT also and got to say was suitably unimpressed with how fast it was.... unless I was behind a hairdresser or something.

I'm pretty sure he (?) gave it everything he had for a bit - then realised i was messing with them, and promptly "gave-up" and started driving steady. TBH is was nearly "embarrassing" how easily i was keeping with it, bendy bits especially.

Well mine unfortunately was on a straight joining a dual carriageway and it couldn't get away from me... I'm sure on some twistys I'd have been right up there backside lol!!

Mine is my daily as I can't afford to run two cars. As I only have a short commute in the mornings in mostly stop start traffic it gets boring driving it. 3 trackdays so far and another one in just over a month make up for it though. Also just taken it on a 1600 mile roadtrip around Scotland and it was ok for that but got a bit tiring by the end.

I use mine as a daily, my work commute is about 115miles a week on mostly A roads. Have to be honest sometimes I do think I'd like something a bit more suitable for it. It's a pain to drive when cold for the first mile or so and I have to be really gentle with the throttle otherwise it kangaroos all over the place. The MPG isn't great either, even when I take it easy it struggles to see much more than 28MPG. That being said, taking it on some good tarmac on a nice day and I fall in love with it again. But considering those days are few and far between now I have been considering selling up recently.
