I put a voltage meter across the 2 terminals of my alternator and got 5v. Battery is not holding charge when running. Any ideas?
I was track driving and came off onto grass. The car started straight away and drove fine since and I completed another 15 mins of laps. I stopped the car but forgot to switch the fan off and the battery was dead. I wonder if I may have rattled the alternator or something during my spin.
I jump started it but as soon as the leads were removed, the car switched off. I ran the car with the leads attached to my other car for 20 mins. Once I removed the leads, I checked the voltage over the battery with the car still running. The battery started at 11.98v then fell approx 0.01v per second down to about 9 and cut out. When I revved the car or used electric windows etc. the voltage dropped quicker.
