Insurance and mods

I'm thinking about the new K-Tec induction kit plus there exhaust and remap. Would you have to let your insurance know plus what does something like that usually add on £££.

Of course you need to let them know! It would void your insurance if you didn't you might aswell not have any.

Cost of upgrades depends a lot on insurer, some charge very little, some a lot, some will not insure mods at all!

Who are you insured with?

I had a look at this, I used compare the market and tried different combos of mods and on average it added £200 to the premium.

Best thing to do is do the same, go on compare the market and select yes for mods and it'll bring up a full list of different mods for you to select.

Also give Sky Insurance a ring and get a quote, be interesting to see what they come up with!!

As an example, greenlight charged me a £25 admin fee to add the ktec catback exhaust system...it varies massively depending on your insurer.

yeah like said above

anything that you fit or do to your car that changes it from standard you have to tell them

my trophy would cost me £260 fully comp, with solid top mounts and induction kit it costs me £450

Yes, you do have to declare it. Otherwise if you have a bump and have undeclared mods on your car then it will eventually lead to other people with the same car as you, us, having our premiums bumped because we will be then seen as higher risk. At the moment we have a good rub of it as these cars are still too expensive to buy, run, tune, insure and maintain for the idiot brigade.

Price change will vary depending on insurer, usually just an admin fee which shouldn't be more than about £25 though. An induction kit is going to make such a tiny difference to the power output of the car that any change in premium will be negligible. It depends how mod friendly your insurer is though really...

That's a really good price, can't imagine it'd be a big jump if any at all.

Best thing to do is call and tell them what you are considering adding to the car and ask them for a price.

430 quid for me with coilovers, big brakes, induction kit, mapping etc all declared. The mods made no difference in price to my policy but I wanted to make sure I had them declared

Only your own insurers can answer the question but if you have any issues, feel free to get in touch for a quotation, at Sky Insurance we specialise in modified car insurance and offer up to a 20% discount to members of clio197.net

When I had the Focus ST Greenlight only wanted a £25 admin fee to cover my re-map, uprated intercooler, K&N, stainless steel exhaust, BBS CH alloys and a few other minor bits and bobs. Wicked Quotes also didn't want anything extra to cover the mods on my bike (Yoshimura exhaust, carbon fibre rear hugger, adjustable levers, crash bungs and a few other bits) when I took out my policy. On both the car and bike there were numerous companies who wouldn't quote me due to the mods. You'll really need to check if your company if they'll cover you.

I have just been on the phone to my insurance company as its due its renewal. Been told that postcodes have been re-evaluated and im now in a high risk area... hello additional £300 on last year.
