it might sound stupid but i dont know much about the workings of an engine but just been watching the gymkana videos on youtube and wondered how that fiesta does 0-60 in 1.8 seconds. any one have any clues?

Yep, top speed on the Gymkhana Fiesta will only be around 105-115MPH, with top gear most likely being a direct drive (equivalent to 4th in a 197). So a rally car will pull in 3rd like a road car would in 1st, is one way to look at it.

also down to weight and sequential box + all the other tricks that go with a £250K car.

and it has 4 times the power of a clio sport

rally cars run circa 300bhp.

its the torque that makes them so fast.

Normal/slightly tuned road cars would run around 1.1-1.4 bar of boost. A rally car runs 3-4 times that, which gives huge torque.

Combined with whats already been mentioned, plus launch control, anti-lag, 4wd grip!

worth a watch.......

And rose jointed suspension, over 10k's worth (probably more) of suspension, solid mounts on everything.

It's basically nothing like the road car. Not to mention the Rally Dakar Fiestas weigh 800kg's!!
