Help Required - "Ns Front Bottom Arm Play In Joint"

So i have just had my car in for a service at a local garage. Needs a good bit of work done it, as i was kinda expecting.

I have seen other threads regarding the "ball joints" but i am not sure if this is the same? I am sorry that i do not have much knowledge around the suspension and stuff. My knowledge is more theoretical than practical (i know the ins and outs of the engine bay etc etc).

I dont have the confidence to start stripping parts off the car myself. Plus my car sits on a sloped driveway, not the greatest for setting it up onto axle stands with the possibility of it sitting there for a day or two till i figure out how to fix what i have broken / put back together in the wrong order :tongueout:!

This is the report that i got back from the garage. Quoted price includes labour too Advice would be greatly appreciated.Capture.JPG

Pads and disks i dunno....Gona get a friend to give a second opinion on them... will only be about 18 months since they were all done. ~8k miles

I currently have the callipers off, and the car is sitting in their yard, im refurbishing them myself.

wow...pulling your trousers down on some of those costs :censored:

all depends on what they class as bottom ball joint as there is one on the wishbone and one on the lower part of the perfo-hub assembly...

Got to be worth the drive to a specialist, not sure who's in the North East though, Mark Black at MRS is probably only a couple of hours away.

Okay - Will give them a call tomorrow and see if i can get them to confirm which it is..

I've already told them i'll probably source the parts myself. They are a Nissan Dealership, but one of the more reputable garages in my area. I've had problems after been to a different garage, so since then i have gone to them for stuff. (Claimed my car came in with the ABS light + airbag light on after replacing the exhaust manifold, which took months and a renault specialist 50 miles away to fix).

Any help with part numbers is much appreciated !

On a side note... My god those caliper pins are f*****g sods to get out O_O! ended up having to cut two of them out.

So far i have come up with the following:

RENAULT CLIO RS 197 CROSS DRILLED GROOVED BRAKE DISC FRONT REAR BRAKE PADS @ £375.00 Ebay

Could someone with the knows give me a thumbs up or down =D?!

  • Tie rods: dealer only - talk to Paul (renaultpartsdirect.co.uk) for these - I have not heard of anyone finding aftermarket ones of the right length
  • Pads: up to you
  • Front discs: Brembo High Carbon (HC) discs are ideal here.
  • Rear discs: I'd go dealer only again - bearings need to be good to last.
Someone like George (roadtrackraceparts.com) will help on the brake front.

http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/tie-rod-end-track-rod-end/trw-jte1061_g914_a161JTE1061.html these are the right rack rod ends for 197/200's TRW are also the company who supply Renault/Nissan with most of there suspension/steering equipment. Bottom arm ball joint as said above depends if it's the actual balljoint on the arm or the balljoint on the perfohub either way they are both expensive to repair bottom arms are ridiculously expensive and only available at Renault.

I sent the garage the exploded diagram, turns out it was the wishbone they were referring too.
I dropped the link into the useful part numbers post for future reference, contains exploded diagrams of everything on the clio cup, and all the extras you can get. http://www.clio197.net/threads/useful-part-numbers.661/page-3#post-674185

Wishbone and track rod end ordered from renaultpartsdirect.co.uk over the weekend, and arrived today.
Disks + pads, ordered from roadtrackraceparts.com over the weekend, also arrived today. Have to say great communication from George @ RTR, he e-mailed me before dispatch to confirm everything. Top guy! Even included me a snazzy pair of brembo mechanics gloves!
