Help please! Vids inc

Noticed a ticking noise maybe just before the weekend. Developed into a strong one as seen in vid below.
I thought maybe manifold. As its a bit of a fluttery sound too.

After the video where i am standstill and light revving i turned it off..tried to turn it back on and it spluttered so i stopped it.

Just as i was praising it for never going wrong on me engine wise :'(

Cambelt has been done aswel. And service history up to date with 8597m or december for next one.

Update

Ive had the AA out this morning, and it started up okay! Granted to me it sounded like a sack of sh*t!
He diagnosed it as a small leak somewhere in the manifold area. Hopefuly a small welding job not a brand new one! :s

I have just had exactly the same thing with mine!! horrible spluttering under load :-/
I have had a look from within the engine bay and it definitely sounds like it is coming from the manifold/primary cat. I am going to pop it down to a local garage this afternoon but I have a 90 mile motorway journey later this evening. Would it be safe to drive (I dont really want to risk having to buy a new manifold)????

Or a new flexi maybe?

Hopefully! Or just a small welding job

How did you get on at the garage?
Im no mechanic, but i suppose if it were a crack, it could crack more if you really booted it..not sure.

It took 4 hours to do mine. £40/hour at a Renault specialist and that price is good in my opinion as mine was £150 from a breakers, price matched off eBay. Not sure if that's a little extortionate thinking about it now. What I paid for parts I mean.
Oh and I had track rod end replaced so that was within the 4 hours too.

I took it to the garage last Wednesday and the mechanic got it up on the ramp to have a look underneath.
It appears to be a tear/split in one of the flexis to the manifold. reading a few posts it appears that replacing the flexi is a fairly big job as is replacing the manifold. as you have pointed out, the toyosport manifold on ebay for £200 seems a good buy. however, I have just had my RAC warranty come through (three months after buying the car - dealer was a bit slow) so I am hoping it may be covered under that.
I also have a knock coming from the front left (bush/link/track rod end etc) which again I am hoping is covered under warranty. and finally, i think the engine mounts need replacing as I have heard this leads to excess wear on the flexis as the engine is rocking backwards and forwards excessively.
the joys of owning a french rocket....

It would be damn good if you got it all on warranty!!!
So my thinking is ive read that the subframe has to come off, so then i might aswell replace the whole thing!
I've read that you need mounts fitted to stop it rocking/hitting the subframe..looking into those :001_rolleyes:
I know what you mean though, i was just about to put mine up for sale and this happened :glare: i love the car but can no longer hack it when it breaks my heart/wallet
Im glad it went wrong on me and not a new owner within their first week lol

I have only owned mine for two months so I am pretty annoyed with the faults happening with the last 2000 miles of ownership.
I am booking it in with a local garage (renault specialist) for diagnostics then i am going to call the RAC to see what they will cover. I have read that they are pretty rubbish but we shall see.
Will keep you posted...

So i took my car to a local renault specialist this morning to diagnose the faults and to see what would be covered under warranty.
- new manifold - not covered under warranty
- new stabilizer links - not covered under warranty according to the RAC as they suspect the fault existing pre policy start date

An interesting point regarding the links is that the RAC have suggested that they were 'faulty' prior to the start date of the policy (7th June 15). This is a fair assumption.
However, the only reason why the policy is dated the 7th June 15 rather than mid April 15 is that the dealer/garage forgot to send out the paperwork and take out the Warranty policy from the date I bought the vehicle.

The renault garage want £1250 plus VAT to sort it. I shall be contacting the garage I originally bought it from back in April and see whether they are willing to sort out the repairs. If not, then I shall be seeking further legal advice to see where I stand as the warranty 'should' have been dated/taken out from the date I purchased the car.

I concede that I may have to foot the bill for the new manifold but the suspension related defects should be covered under warranty. This is probably worth a few hundred pounds in parts and labour charges.

Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed

Been here myself but I was dealing with a reprobate so got me nowhere. I'm hoping karma will catch up with them soon. If they are decent people you're dealing with ask politely if they would like to pay for the work doing/ and or take on the work ( trading standards would advise you ask ), if they decline then send them a 'Sale of goods act ' letter which you can find online, outlining how to write it etc. This states any purchase should be fit for purpose and in reasonable condition for a reasonable amount of time. A lot of people read that and fold but if they are owt like the d***heads I dealt with, I just sorted it and took it on the chin. Warranties are usually a load of s*** too, piece of mind to the 'naive' but not worth the paper they're written on imo. Good luck.

The only sticking point is that 3 months may not be considered a reasonable amount of time to go down the route you are suggesting.

OP - i can't see how it is your issue that the garage didn't pre date the warranty to the sale date. Speak to the garage who sold you the car first and take it from there. Oh and try and find a specialist rather than a Renault dealership if you are going to get the work done out of your own pocket, May be cheaper.

thanks montana. it is my issue that they didnt date the warranty correctly as now the RAC will not carry out the repairs. i am having to try and get the dealer to pay for the works and he isnt getting back to me.
because i rely on the car for work i have literally just ordered the required parts so can get the ball rolling next week and get everything sorted. i am then going to try and extract some money from the dealer :-/ fingers crossed!!!

Sale of goods act letter, next port of call as advised by Trading standards.

I have a letter drafted ready to send this morning. Thanks for the heads up on this  much appreciated. I tried calling the dealer yesterday only to be told that the owner/director is out of the country for a month! What a loads of b*****ks.... Hahaa

So the garage have finally got back to me and basically told me that the manifold isnt covered under warranty - fair enough. But as it has developed a serious fault within such a short space of time of owning the vehicle it is up to them to prove that the issue didnt exist when they sold the car to me.
They have also claimed that the stabiliser links are not covered under warranty. I disagree with this as they are not listed in the 'excluded' section in the warranty booklet. Ball joints, swivel joints, steering rack, shock absorbers, springs are all 'covered' under the policy and I see no reason why the stabiliser links would not be covered either. The RAC did not dispute whether the links were covered under the policy when I spoke with them.

I have requested a 50% contribution to the costs of sorting out the repairs or I shall be seeking legal action - I have given them a deadline of thursday at 5.30pm. We shall see what happens in the meantime.
