Girlfriend hits pot hole..

So, the other half was driving the clio today down a country lane and hit a pot hole on the left side. I've just taken it out and it sounds like a rubbing sound from the back left tire region. I've used a torch but can't actually see anything. I don't think I can hear it constantly but sometimes it sounds like rubbing in sync with the revolution of the wheel. Any ideas?!

Update. It sounds worse when going in reverse?

Jack the offending corner off the ground and give the wheel a spin. Will be easier to spot things as its happening.

It turned out to be a stone caught in the caliper, this did spur me on to service the brakes though..
