I have couple of questions:
1. ) Is there some special tools needed when opening gearbox.
2. ) Is there some special tools needed when replacing syncros
3. ) What parts i should order from Renault?
- Syncromesh ring?
- Driveshaft seals (2)
- Gasket kit available for gearbox?
- New clutch kit
many thanks
not had a tl4 apart but knowing renault there will be a few "special tools"
i have one to take apart but due to whats going on at home not got time yet
i dont think they are that difficult to take apart - be better if you have a bench / vice / press
selection of punches and pullers as well to remove pins and remove bearing etc
the gear clusters will either be held by press on bearings / snap rings / or nuts
whilst its apart replace the seals and replace the bualk/synchro rings - theres 6 of them
2 the same and the other 4 the same
also check the bearing for wear - be careful as i think one of them uses a plastic cage for bearing retension
if you cannot find information on the 197 tl4 box look at other renault manuals for information on the tl4 fitted to them say megane laguna or diesel clio etc
oh - i would take it apart first BEFORE ordering any parts - this is to make sure you only order the items once and if you do get it apart and its beyond economical repair you havent wasted money being seals and rings etc!!!
