Few 197 Problems - Some pointers an advice

Heya folks, basically, i brought my 197 from a porsche specialist last saturday and the car came with a 6month warranty. Its not a dealer warranty, its like a private warranty company that'll pay for the work to be undertaken at a registered garage which includes the main stealers.

Anyways, ive purposely been givin the car a LIL bit of stick, so whatever was gona give out will do so under the warranty (an it makes sense to get as much work done whilst in the warranty period)

The problems ive found are:

Its developed a creaking noise when turnin the steerin left an right, mainly when movin slow or pretty much stationary

Theres a rattling, which becomes more apparent under engine breaking (i was thinkin some sort of clutch bearing)

It kangaroos when cold in the mornin

Its got a flat spot in the acceleration (i think from the **** K&N)

Has anyone had these problems with their 197 and if so, what was done to repair them. i know there is an ECU remap update or something for the kangarooin, bt jus wanna make sure also that its nuffin majorly serious, as ive never spent this much on a car before an new to the whole renault thing an that lol. Also, is renualt deffo the best place to take it in the midlands?

any help appreciated folks?

oh yeh, also peeps, how much is a standard airbox an all the pipes direct from renault?

an a part number if anyone knows it

K&N take it off, induction kits are ****, there is a flat spot upto 2800 rpmfrom which is standard, kangarooing is normal, the rest i cant really say.

yeh mate the K&N is deffo comin off, gona ask renault how much the standard box is an jus av one of them fitted whilst its in their avin the rest done see.

My first 197(2006) had the Kangaroo /flat spot big time,Hardings did a Renault reflash and cured it 100%.
Depahaser pully is another problem ,mines in now having it done,it can cause flat spots kangarooing and poor running .
Gearbox was updated n 2008 ,my 2006 had a new one fitted and this one is playing up as well.

ye dude, mine deffo has it quite bad i think an can be jerky goin into gears sometimes.
it'll b interestin to see how this all works out with it bein a private warranty with a main dealer lol

i got this creaking noise too, ive had it the 2.5 years i have had my r27, no idea what it is, but its really loud out side the car

Creaking sounds like a shock or spring problem.

On my old Yaris i had a shock leak slowly and had a progressively worse creak sound as the spring was doing all the work.

the noise when steering, is most likly the top mounts, or it mite be the steering rack, get it all checked foc while you can..............!

I seem to be getting some "clicking" type noises whenever i'm in mine, can't really tell where it's coming from apart from it's somewhere in the cabin but it's slightly annoying...

Those warranty companys are really hard work! i'm a mechanic and trying to get them to fork out to pay for things for customers is a nightmare. so make sure you put up a fight! the creaking noise could be bottom ball joint. my old alfa did that. but must admit i'm new to Renaults so not sure if they suffer with those going.

In answer to your question no Renault is not the beat place to take it for work the only person who will touch my 197 is fred in the midlands so your very lucky indeed having him on your door step . Widley renouned as one if the beat places to take your Renault . Font think he would want to do warrenty work but would deffo do the work like normal mate

A few of the problems I experienced with my 2007 197 with 25K on the clock.

1. Sqeaking seatbelt mount (shoulder mount).

2. Kangaroo (even after applied ECU patch).

3. Dropped doors.

4. Melted steering wheel.

5. Difficulty engaging gears (mostly when cold but sometimes when fully warmed up)

6. A loud metalic clacking nosie when changing from first to second gear.

7. A thuding noise from the front end when taking up drive (maybe engine mounts).

8. Cracking seals around the rear windows (outside).

9. Possible delamination of the glass, milky looking stains (all windows).

10. Banging noise from the back end. I've heard this could be the boot catch but it sounded like the exhaust hitting the under body.

11. Keyless entry system not working very well in the cold winter weather. I had to let myself in with the emergency key quite a few times.

12. Engine managment light came on a few times when stuck in heavy traffic.

Most of the above seem to be common on all 197s. Although that sounds like quite a big/poor list of faults - it has to be said that the car never once let me down in two & a half years of ownership.

It was such a fun car to drive that I forgave it all it's little short comings. None of the above has stopped we buying a 200:biggrin:

well its in on thursday to have it plugged into the computer, have a road test to see what they can find, an the 25 point health check, there gonna see what needs doin an sort it out with the finance company for me.

But its developed a tappin noise from the front left wheel now :worried:

but i love it far too much to consider sellin lol

hi there, ive had mine two weeks and already have a small list of faults on mine. not booked it in yet but was thinking of renault dundee where i bought it.

1. Kangarooing
2. Dropped Doors
3. Broken rear window seals
4. Banging noise from the back
5. The 12v socket not working
6. Alloy wheels bubbling (like they're rusting)

so hopefully get all that sorted foc. From what i've read on here, i wont be paying a penny.

Mine Kangeroos quite badly when it's cold, it makes the car really difficult to drive for a short while. You also look like you are learning to drive and have no experience at all. I've got the banging from the rear too! Lol! It does sound like the exhaust and it seems to do it worse when the car is really warm or I have been giving it a bit of stick! The air con compressor sounds like it is about to blow up on my car now too, and the heater fan is still making a strange ticking noise (they told me they'd fixed it when I took it in recently). So it definately needs booking in to Renault Wolverhampton again now.

put a cd on LOUD and you wont hear a thing
then put your foot down and ENJOY:biggrin:

I've just had the sela replaced under warranty between rear window and front door. THink due to the harsh winter we had has casued them to crack, i know it shudnt but got done 4 free so good times!!

Did u say what the mileage was on it, also has it been lowered or got spacers on it??
