It's no surprise to see Palmer given the boot - he had his second chance this year, and although I know he's had some reliability issues, he's been nowhere Hulkenberg's pace. Hopefully Sainz can help move Renault forward, I like them as a team.

I too would like to see Kubica back in, I'm hopeful he'll get a seat. It is a pity that that is all Alonso has to go on, though I guess it's about the limit of what he can get. He's got no realistic chance of a top team wanting him now unfortunately, so it's a reliance on a mid-grid team coming good and giving him half a shot there...

I suppose it's easier to haul a middle-of-the-grid chassis like Williams' further up the grid than it is with a middle/back of the grid engine like the Honda. I think Alonso would get Williams more than a few top 4/5 finishes during the year.

By the way, I'd be very surprised if TR let Sainz go to Renault before the end of the season. They're very close in the midfield battle in the constructors so I think they'd be crazy to allow him to go as he's obviously going to get more points on the board than Joe, Lee and Palmer.

TR would be shooting themselves in the foot. They could lose many millions if Renault finish above them.

Stranger things have happened in F1 but I reckon it will be next season.

Renault get the prestige of partnering with McLaren, and Red Bull get the chance to evaluate a works tie-up with Honda. Sainz is being thrown in to sweeten the deal for Renault, as McLaren will clearly be a threat to the works' team with Renault engines.
It's clear Red Bull would drop Renault engines if they could find a viable alternative, they maybe think Honda is that alternative, and the junior team is the perfect way for them to look at them up close but from a distance.

If Sainz goes to Renault mid season and because of that they end up ahead of TR in the constructors, that would be crazy. The difference in prize money would be huge. I can't see Renault handing that over just in case they do.

Just seen this on Sky F1. Would love to see Porsche back in F1, it's a shame they're leaving WEC. Just a shame that Horner would be staying, the guy is a prick. It seems it would essentially still be the Red Bull team with the same livery etc. as they'll be the title sponsor, so they get the same exposure with a fraction of the outlay. Makes sense for them I suppose as they're too busy spitting their dummy out now they're not competitive any more.

Yeah, just checked on Sky, they're saying it's an engine deal. I've been told it's a lot more than that. Just with RB being the main sponsor. We'll see, interesting news!

Porsche's last F1 engine was a V12 in 1991 which was rubbish, although their WEC engine and hybrid units are very impressive. Although Honda have shown that past performance is no indication of current/future performance. Hopefully Renault do tell Red Bull to fuck off, and Porsche tell Horner and Marko to piss off too.

Just read the report about Renault/RB split on BBC Sport. Yeah, it does seem that RB were quick to forget who helped them to all those titles.... smacks a lot of a superiority complex on RB's part. The article also brings up the fact that Ricciardo and Verstappen might not want to stick around if the Honda engine is still a box of bolts in 2019...

Personally, I'd like to see a big "screw you Renault, what have you ever done for us, we've got Porsche now" moment from Horner and his set of cocks and then for the Porsche PU to do a full on Honda and be more like a poo than a PU.

That would please me greatly.
