Engine Blew up!!

This isnt the first reported case of bottom end con rod failure on these engines, worrying.

your right there!!!

as for oil level....it doesnt cause con rods to snap or bolts to shear...it would just sieze the bottom end first or start to rattle/knock

its purely down to metal fatigue/failure

Is there any way to check if our 200 engines are likely to go pop? Anything we should listen/look for?
Likely RUK would consider a recall?

Oh god! Bad times :001_rolleyes:

that was due to sustained (race conditions) high revs

i have heard of at least 5 engines let go...based on how many sold...be a very small proportion/%

fr4 probably not as bomb proof as the honda k series but that does have an extra 1000+rpm in hand :001_rolleyes:

must say the con-rods do look a bit "spindly" but with like most components in a high revving engine its a case of weight vs strengh vs cost in a mass production engine

the engine oil level was fine i was driving back from germany and checked it before i set off so it wasnt that but it is worrying that the engine was hardly under stress and it went bang and they are giving me a whole new engine but i thing they should upgrade me to forged internals lol

A friends engine (bottom end) went pop in Germany too a few weeks back. I put that down to the oil giving up after being cooked on the nurburgring though.

I know this doesn't apply here, but for sustained track use the RS 200 needs an oil cooler. I backed out of a lap after the oil hit 135oC odd (I have the RS monitor pack).

Like you, Renault were very good at just getting the engine replaced, no quibbles, even though it was taken to the nurberg dealership lol

got my car back on wednesday i had a focus 2.0 tdci as a hire car and and it was very efficent and had loads of space but it made me realise how much i missed the clio glad to have her back

OUCH that looks bad, glad RUK are replacing though, makes us people out of warranty nervous though. Luckily I have low mileage and full RSH...
