Emissions FAIL clarifications

Took it to another place for diagnostics, and they're used to Clios, and it still failed even after Cat was "red hot". So, worst comes to worse, and it's change both sensors at least £100 each, then new milltek sportscat fitted for £650, then belts due Feb for £650, then possible new remap...... and it still may not work ......think it's all getting financially unviable.

A bit early to say this but could well be breaking: best bits:

Reconditioned gearbox 18 months ago, with Blackline LSD fitted at AW motoworks with paper work to prove

90k on engine, funny enough runs sweet as, new oem crank and cam sensors

Couple sets standard wheels 4 x newish Pilots ports, other set has 2 new AD08r's on

Toyota exhaust manifold, milltek resonated exhaust (obvs Cat and sensors will be a problem)

Then all other standard stuff.

Cat converts co to co2, you have more than enought co2, i guess cat is ok. Lambda is low that means more fuel than needed, that is why you have more co2 and hc. My guess is o2 sensor is faulty, is your car consuming more fuel?
Haven't really noticed tbh.
But probably a bit more, yes.

To say you’re thinking of breaking the car before the cars barely been attempted to be looked at.

talking about sports cats and remaps is abit drastic and the belts are one of those things that come with any car

Take it to a proper RS garage

We'll see. Not spending lots on it. Mechanics did say pop in tomorrow to discuss solutions. Am too old to be crawling under cars.

The other factor is the cost of Track days has escalated dramatically last couple years. An average one is £300+ all in, when it used to be less than £200.
 
I’m with @Beany - you’re throwing your toys out of the pram a little early.

Buy this on eBay. Get the car up on a ramp, swap it out for the first pre-cat O2 sensor, get it warmed up and take it for a retest.


If it doesn’t work, you know it’s not that. If it does work you can either stick with the £20 sensor or replace it with an OEM one knowing that was the issue and throw this one in your spares box.

What I cant understand is why is there no warning lights coming on for emissions change both they are the same age and if the first one is over fueling the second is not picking that up to bring on a warning light and we know it is over fueling.

Yes, thats what i thought. They have used diagnostic tools and found nothing, and there are no lights

It does smell rich, and mpg not good- so as other contributors suggested have asked for the pre cat 02 sensor to be changed, then see where we are

As said, the Cat (Supplied by Milltek) has only done 14,000 miles- how can that go at that mileage?

Still, have taken advice in previous posts- lets see what that brings- then i will have to think how far i wanna go with it

Took to an alternative MOT tester who confirmed bad emissions

They then run diagnostics which didnt pinpoint anything

Instructed them to replace O2 sensor front, as advice earlier in this thread
They went ahead clarifying they would not be liable for the replacement failing to resolve issue, but i still incur costs

So, the dice were rolled. Failure would mean next move was 2nd sensor replace, then CAT replace

They put a BOSCH sensor in , and, thankfully it worked

MOT passed with new o2 front sensor
As said earlier, cant understand why no (emissions?) lights on dash, or no codes on CLIP via OBD port

Still, sweats off for next 12 month.

Thanks to @Beany and @Kanazir and all who encouraged me to perservere when i was flagging

You are welcome, there was no light on dash because o2 sensor didnçt fail it was just giving wrong reading, now you shpuld use a bit less fuel and run cleaner and better. Glad that you didn't sell bits of a car
