Emissions FAIL clarifications

Clio 197 failed emissions today- big style

CO2 was 10% (Should not be above 0,2%)
HydroCarbons 900-1500ppm (Should not be above 200ppm)
Lambda 0.7 (Should be between 0.97-1.03)

Tester suggested new LAMBDA sensors and new Catalytic converter

That seems strange when i only fitted the Milltek sportscat 3 year ago- can they go that quick? Ive done 3 or so track days a year

Its a milltek resonated sportscat set up

Should i just go ahead and replace the sensor (Or is it 2 sensors on an aftermarket milltek system with TOYO manifold?) and the sportscat- pricey

OR- Run thought some Cat cleaner and maybe change the sensor

Not sure what to do- anyone any ideas?

Go with the cheapest option first.

Or take it to a tester whose friendly.

Most likely a sensor, the cars came from the factory with 2 cats. And they usually pass with one of them in place

The sensor needs replacing for definite. That will be effecting how the car runs quite considerably, and it's probably a contributing factor as to why the cat appears to be dead.

My car would never pass with just the one cat, but, for the cost, i would just get a used main cat added to your system as they're only 30-50 second hand.

My mechanic thinks they didnt get it hot enough, although i did get it up to temperature, idling, for 20 mins before i went in

Looking at swapping out the pre and after Cat sensors if it has both, anyone got links? (2006 model 197). Seemingly the connector plugs can be a problem, and OEM parts are best, but the prices..................... too much. Need good aftermarkets

Is there a basic emissions tester that could help me out before its taken back in, so i can checkout the levels first?

My Sportscat only done about 15k miles- would it really die at that mileage after a 10 track days

I could help but Im in Hampshire, sports cat dont seem very reliable in passing emissions from reading around.

My mate had the same issue with his sports cat, they need to be mega hot to work properly. Even then the tester had to get creative as it was still failing. Odd looking at your readings though as mine was only high on co2 and mine is decatted.

I think when it came to Lambda sensors I replaced mine with some Bosch ones from Autodoc, I forget which connectors they have though.

No, they arent cheap. atm trying to find a video showing removal
Believe there is one on the manifold (accessible engine bay?) and another on the CAT itself

Just phoned Renault Main Dealer spare parts for info- and I know theres lots threads and comment on this site bout LAMBDA sensors

So- 7700107433 is the correct pre Cat sensor (£168.07 + VAT)
They then said the after CAT sensor was 8200590431 (£168.06 plus VAT) when around this site it says 8200830903: so, which is right?

Was gonna try replacing both sensors before thinking the CAT has gone to its grave, and buy one of them

if you have a obd2 scanner with live data you check for the lambda voltage fluctuations

Pre-cat sensor has two connector types:
Oval (1) - Part Number 77 00 107 433 - possibly marked with the code 0258006046
Square (8) - Part Number 82 00 830 903 - possibly marked with the code 0258010110

Post-cat sensor also has two connector types:
Oval (7) - No part number given on Dialogsys
Square (9) - Part Number 82 00 830 903 - possibly marked with the code 0258010110

Dialogsys therefore has same part number for the pre and post cat sensors, if they both have the square connector.

These part numbers on Dialogsys could be old and have been superseded. RPD have been good for me in the past, I'd take the punt on 8200590431 if I was you, as it says suitable for the F4R engine in the Clio.

Thanks for this.
This diagram was shown to me in a parts retailer store. They were pretty confused which was applicable to where, as well.
(And confuses matters a bit more when mine has after market milltek exhaust with a sportscat, but assume the sensors would be same anyway to marry up with the ECU map)

Main problem is whatever i buy, if its fitted and it dont work, your money is lost

Ive tried to get to the pre cat sensor from car raised on axle stands, and cant quite get to the connector, so will have to take it into a workshop with a lift

Would prefer to purchase the sensors in and take with me. But also thinking leave to them to sort, as they could get part numbers from the sensors they can remove

Pretty sure as a 2006 early model, i would be OVAL sensors connectors?

Think i will take back to MOT tester, and have a chat and see if he can retest (After ive run through some CAT cleaner) and if test fails again ask him to replace the sensors, then if it still fails, may have to replace the Milltek Sportscat.

I dont mind replacing the sportscat at £550 odd quid, if that is the problem. Its the dread of fitting new sensors and a CAT, and problem still unresolved.............

Have bitten the bullet, and as i cant get to the connector of the lambda sensor on exhaust manifold from axle stands, have booked it in to get investigated. £45 for diagnostic and booked me in next day (Leave it there and they can have a look when they can) which i thought pretty good

Lets see what they come up with

I did burn of 60 miles of fuel and emptied tank. then put another 10 litres of new fuel in

Am wondering if there was an additive hanging around the original fuel, fouling the exhaust analyser MOT test.

Will report back if anyone interested- fingers crossed they dont come back with CAT needs replacing, or they suggest Renault sensors at £200 a pop.

Cat converts co to co2, you have more than enought co2, i guess cat is ok. Lambda is low that means more fuel than needed, that is why you have more co2 and hc. My guess is o2 sensor is faulty, is your car consuming more fuel?

Yeah it looks like it's running extremely rich with so much hydro carbons which is unburnt fuel,I would be looking at getting a new oxygen sensor as well.
