Dealerships do make me laugh..

Nearside front fog light got smashed by a stone the other day.
Phoned up the local Renault place to me in Chichester.
Quote for a fog light was a bargainous price of £60 odd plus VAT, plus fitting taking the price to around £130. Was told that the bumper has to come off..

I was thinking "yeh right, jack the car up pop the arch liner to one side and swap the light over. Ten minute job"

Called Rentech in Portsmouth, Dave there ordered the part and said he'd fit it.

So I took it there today and yep, on the ramp, arch liner to one side and new light popped in, all for the 60 odd quid plus VAT.

Also when I bought the 200, I got a labour free servicing where I just pay for the parts. Price for a 12000 miles service was something like £225!! With the labour free deal I got it worked out at £105. Rentech (who are Renault approved specialists) quoted me £85.

Think the 200 will be going there and their work is good. I've been using them since 2005.

I've not taken mine back to the dealership so far for anything other than warranty work.

Local renault specialist did the first service for £105 with me supplying the oil, no fuss I got to speak to guy who did the work and not some receptionist. They stamp the book just the same and warranty is still intact as they use renault parts and follow the service schedule/guide.

While my experience of Harrats (who I bought from) has been ok, they're too far away and still more expensive so the specialists get the business as the Evans Hellshaw nearby.... well I wouldnt trust them to change a light bulb.

the dealership answer will have probably come from someone who really doesnt know about the cars

as the specialist is usually a small workshop where the staff do all the jobs and therefore do know what they are talking about

I was put off main dealers after I had warranty work refused on my trophy!
Top mount was clonking (very common problem), and it was refused I o had 'different' suspension fitted........
By different they were referring to the sachs dampers!

...oh dear how embarrassing for the dealer :s

Buy the fog light from an accident damaged car on eBay and fit it yourself.

Your spot on with what you though about how to replace it, you dont need to take the bumper off. Take the wheel of then the front of the arch liner and you'll see the srews that hold the fog light on.

I replaced my fogs with .R blanking plates.

Glad you shopped around and didn't get ripped off in the end mate. I must admit I get mine serviced at the dealers, but thats because I know them and the work they have done has been good. As always though it is hit and miss with the dealerships which gives them all a bad reputation.

Little stuff like that I tend to attempt myself - I dont like paying people for stuff I can do myself lol!

Took my 182 to rentec for it's 36k setvice, shame they are so far away,

Where's rentec?
I always took my 182 to Birchdown, really enjoyed the drive down there.
Its always good to know a few 'good' places to take them rather than main dealers.

GrumpyTwig - are you from Doncaster aka Chavcaster? Which specialist do you use? Doncaster Diagnostics are just up the road from Evans Hallshaw, but not tried them myself yet.

Will have to use them for 5th year service / belts on my 197 unless I travel a bit further away to another specialist (R S Murray & Sons in Leeds might be an option).

(Sorry if I've got you hopelessly confused with someone else and you aren't from Donny ;/)

T200 Cup - Rentech have got a servicing deal on at the moment, plus I don't need the air filter replaced as I've got an ITG cotton filter fitted.

I think I'll leave the warranty stuff to the main dealership, although the last time I went in they forgot to tighten up the track rods bolts...

Oh and twohats make sure that the place you're thinking of taking it to has the proper Renault cam locking tools. If they haven't don't use them.

Mine will probably end up at the dealers, they matched the quote from a specialist for me so can't really complain

Just on a side note, trailerparktrev i was at chichester tesco the other week and saw a GW cup plus i keep seeing a grey 250. Dont think i have seen yours yet.

I haven't seen your car either. I have seen my previous car (ultra red) R27 parked up in Chichester, the grey 250 and a racing blue 197 and that's it in town.
