Dealer Cockup

Took my 197 in for its first service on Thursday of last week.

On checking the bill this morning I noticed they had put 10 W40 oil in instead ot 5 W40!!

Rang and spoke to the Service Manager and he confirmed they had made a mistake and will replace with correct oil if I would like to take it back which I'm doing on Monday next week.

Service Manager said it won't do the engine any harm ... Would appreciate if someone could let me have their views on this.

By the time I take it back on Monday I shall have covered no more than about 10 miles.

lol that exact same thing happend to me a few months ago which garage did you go to ? It will be fine till its changed i went over 100 miles least your engine will get a good flush out way i looked at it

Thanks Guys the the reassurance !

It was F W Cross in S****horpe.

The amusing point about the service is that they only charged me £120 when it should have been nearer £200 because that is what the Service Manager quoted me when I rang to book the car in. Service Receptionist told me the correct price when I collected it!!

It will hardly matter.

Basically the oil will be a bit "thicker" at lower temperatures i.e. on cold start. So basically just make sure then engine is fully warm before you boot it. 5w just allows more protection from more lower temperatures in other words.

On the top end theyre both 40, so there will be no difference in wear protection at all when the engine has warmed up

With the mildish winters we have in this country 10w is fine in most cars, obviously lower the better

Thats lucky fella, you almsot got completely ripped off. £200 first service is a joke. I had my first service done by a specialist including air filter and cabin filter and was £135
