Clio 200 Clocks in 197

Does anyone know if the 200 clocks fit in the 197 please without needing to reprogram the car? I want the yellow rev counter.

Cheers

John

They fit straight in but they'll need the mileage done otherwise it'll show the mileage from the car they came from.

Thanks Sean, is this a Renault only job to reprogram please?

Renault won't be able to adjust the mileage. You'll need to find someone who clicks vehicles.

The yellow clocks do look better but it's a bit of a kludge mod really. Stay standard and love it for what it is would be my advice.

Again, they do look REALLY good though!

Cheers Eddie, ah well, I’ll just make sure I document the change for when I come to sell it.

Thanks again

I'll be honest, I done it in my 197 and it undoubtedly made the car harder to sell. Any mention of a dash clock change will have alarm bells ringing.

as above..find someone who deals with this kind of thing..i would stay standard too though...each to their own..good luck whatever you decide...

Just my own experience . The 197 I had sold is for sale again and has been for months now as the owner has mentioned the dash clock change in the advert.

If you're really worried about selling the car with the 200 clocks, simply put the 197 ones back in and change the mileage on them. Fitting 200 clocks is one of the mods i'd do again and they hold their value too should you choose to sell them.

So John, you've come on here hoping we're going to help you out and here we are making your should I?/shouldn't I? situation even worse!

As Davinder his rightly pointed out, you could always put 197 clocks back in and have the miles set correctly. You'd definitely have trouble selling if you had different clocks in though.

My advice if you are going ahead would be to document the hell out of it all just in case. Photos of the old clocks in the car showing the miles and the same with the new ones showing the same miles, and then vice versa at the end. Best to try and protect yourself for the future.

Oh and as for being vein... a quick look at the build thread will show you 90% of us on here are just the same!

Thank you, I plan to keep the car for a while, so would quite like looking at the later clocks with the yellow rev counter and lack of silver surrounds.

197 clocks are so cheap, so I’d probably keep them to replace at sale tome. As you’ve said, I’ll take loads of photos and probably change at MOT time to document the mileage that way too.

Should have just bought a 200 and changed the front end to the 197 [emoji6] I hope I haven’t offended 200 owners!

the thing is you will have to pay for changing the mileage every time you swap them over...nevertheless,as you mentioned above you dont plan selling it soon so shouldnt be an issue..

With a Renault clip (Diagnostic tool) you can put the miles forward but you cant take them backwards I did it once put the dash forward 1 mile when I saw the option to do so. I also craped myself when the tool showed 120,000 at the start but when I did the math it was actually km and was equal to the display in miles.

I've done it and it's a straight swap but if the dials come from a cup it won't have cruise control etc. which will then need programming via CLIP. As mentioned you can put the mileage forward but not back via CLIP so make sure you check the mileage on the donor before you buy, I had to add about 10k to my 200 dials to match them up... Given mileage history is recorded on MOT it's gonna look a bit odd if it suddenly goes backwards so your best off getting it done right.

Dials are a two minute job to fit, if you have CLIP it will take you five and job done. :thumb:
