Clio 197 - Horn blows the fuse

Hi all,

I've checked other threads on here but can't find the same issue I'm having - pressing the horn immediately blows the fuse.

For starters, I have an aftermarket steering wheel (and boss, both Momo so not cheap or anything).

I get 12v across the horn connector (at the steering wheel), so I know there is no issue with the clock mechanism or the pins connecting it and the stalk (a common issue if they're bent is that there is no voltage).

When I use the horn, I hear a very brief crackle and the fuse is then obviously gone too (doing it's job!).

Any thoughts as to what is causing this? I don't believe the horn goes through a relay, so could it potentially be the horn itself is shot and is completely shorting everything?

Cheers for any help!

The horn gets it's earth (negative) from the engine bay so the steering wheel control interrupts the live feed only so if you get 12Volts at the steering wheel you are getting a ground signal from a short in the wiring. Your options are this:
1. Short in the horn itself.
2. Short in the wiring to the horn.
3 Short in the steering wheel/boss.

The diagram shows the wiring you can disconnect the circuit at three points
1. At the horn.
2. At the steering Column.
3. At the button.

So the 6 pin connector at the steering wheel pins 3 and 4 are the horn function on this 2008 diagram RG (Red) and BA (White) loom side so if you short them it's like pushing the horn button without the steering head stuff if the fuse blows it's the horn or the wiring to the steering head. If the horn works then the steering head is the problem. I've taken one of those Momo steering wheels from a Japanese's Clio 200 and what I found was little insulation around the horn wiring easy to short to the metal parts of the assembly.
