Clio 197 Cams.... Reviews..

Just a post to anyone whos had cams fitted in there 197/200.

were you happy with the power increase?

did it transform the car?

would you of done it if you knew what you do now?

Im NOT after blah blah not worth it for BHP per £ lol

A lot of money and yes I've had it done

Does make the car quick but anything with torque will breeze past I would suggest head work and matched inlets at the same time if you can afford it.

Gives a top speed that meets the last number on the speedo!

cheers for that mate!

did it make the torque better though?

did it removed the 134mph limiter then i take it?

do they raise the rev limiter?

also, who mapped it?

THANKS!!

Yeah  for a increase in speed you don't have to change down... Unless you want to gun it! Haha.

I didn't know it was limited? Haha but yes on a stretch of private tarmac I achieved 150mph

do they raise the rev limiter?

Yeah it is now 7700 however they do that with any map.

also, who mapped it?

K-tec mapped it and done the work. 213bhp and 175 ft/lb of torque

Anything else just ask. I'll try and find my graph.

I was unaware of any limiter also. I'm sure some people on here have had 140mph on the autobahns?

Also, dont ARP bolts come recommended when raising the limiter?

Before it was 137-8 and that was it. cup spoiler off it might of gone further! lol.

They are advisable for any more than 7700..

mine gets to the green shift light in 6th gear and it stops revving! u can't bounce the rev limiter in 6th gear!

so you seem happy with it! ive done a few tricks to it so going to remove pre-cat then get that and the cams mapped at the same time.

I recon you have the <2008 model?

ON TOPIC: I had nothing but trouble with my cams (catcams 5504402) but I think that was due to lousy mechanics/tuners. Had to change my engine after 2 blown engines.

I lad, 57 plate 2007

what you mean blown engine?

what actually went?

anyone else had bother?

So far, most people that have had cams issues have been the result of the mechanics not timing them correctly IIRC.

ok guys I was about to start a similar thread due to the fact that my 5th service is around the corner (next month). My questions would be:

1. Catcams or Schrick and why? The car is been used on a daily basis. I heard something about unstable idle on Schricks? Is it true? Can you live with it assuming that gains with Schrick are a bit better? Litchy and Mike can answer that I suppose:smile:
2. IMPORTANT: Reliability issues? Anyone? And I'm not talking here about problems that have arisen due to dodgy mechanics\wrong timing etc.
3. I noticed that TDF are considerably more expensive than Ktec. Anyone knows why? Ritchie you mentioned that above 7700rpm it is strongly suggested that you change bolts, TDF's website states that the engine would rev at 7800rpm, does that mean that the reason they are more expensive is because they change the bolts as well? And if not, how can their package be reliable (mind that I am aware that Matt from TDF is an expert and he does know his stuff)?
4. Is it worth having matched inlets and headwork done at the same time? Noticeable gains? And if so, how much more expensive would that be? (I'm not looking a accurate figure here obviously). What's the story with the reliability after having such a mod done?

Story about the questions guys but I know there are some people here who can provide very good feedback.

Thanks in advance

schricks have a lumpy idle, not unstable. Otherwise they are fine. They are more aggressive than cat cams, power is very strong and is so alive on cam!! i had no issues day to day.

No issues with reliability, only if the mechanic times them wrong. Mine ran to 7.8k without arp rod bolts, id put them in tho tbh. Anything over 7.8 will need solid lifters i believe.

TDF are more expensive because they choose to be lol! No different, to anyone elses packages.

Id say worth the £240 for inlets, frees up the midrange a bit, worthwhile as a background mod!!

If you have the extra cash for schricks go that way  i used the cash to have the inlets matched and drive to k-tec haha.

you'll be happy with either just make sure its a renault specialist that times them!!

Well I was told 7.7k was max Id love more! Someone near me used to have a limit of 8250 on his 182 on a standard bottom end!! It did use to eat bottom ends though!! Lol.

thanks for the feedback guys. some more will be greatly appreciated.

when we talk about headwork, is that something that takes place ''in house'' or the tuner needs to send the head elsewhere? are we talking about being without a car for weeks or it's something that can be done in a relatively small timeframe?
