changing oil filter

hi guys changing oil v weekend do i need to rub anything around the seal of the oil filter before fittings?

After you've drained the old oil, just dip your finger in it and rub a smear round the rubber seal of the filter. Thats what I've always done, whether I need to or not is a matter of opinion but it makes me feel as though its a better seal!
