Hi guys,

Think im just going to go for it and get a catback system.

Question is.... what do i go for! Generally wanting something slightly louder but more importantly a really nice sound and don't want it to be overly loud/droney on motorways.

I've been told to go for a Milltek Cat Back Non-Res. My mate has one in his R32 and it sounds perfect imo but im wondering if thats because of the car its on.

Not willing to pay for the Akra as i cant justify it for literally a nicer sound :tearsofjoy:

I would appreciate if you guys could pick from the poll to help me out.

Also does anyone in Northern Ireland have any of these systems that wouldn't mind letting me hear it? @Cossers @-Eddie- @R11HOY etc

Also.... Where would be the best place to order from to deliver to NI for a good price or anywhere that has deal/discount on as the Milltek is looking around £500 it seems

Cheers Guys

Always admired the Resonated Scorpion Exhaust for the 197. Doesn't seem to lairy and the fact you can buy it with the slash cut tips to sit flush with the 197 diffuser makes it a winner in my book (appreciate your looking for a 200 though, so that's less relevant ) - heard old stories about the Milltek melting the rear diffuser, although maybe that's just down to poor fitting, and again may not be an issue at all on the 200. Non-Res always sounds a little full on to me for a daily and I can't imagine sounds too pleasant for any sort of motorway miles but that's all down to personal preference.

Scorpion always seems to be the popular choice with aftermarket exhausts.. I’d ideally stay away from non-res if you do commuting / motorways as it become droney as fook! Depending on mot requirements etc Resonated with a decat is mint

Good point @Beany - does anyone actually know how this would go down under the new MOT rules due imminently? I know they're going to start failing DPF's that have obvious welds (where the insides have been removed). Does this also extent to vehicles that have the cat chopped out and replaced with straight pipe? Or is that purely down to an emissions test? Sports cat I guess is an alternative but these always seem pricey for what they are.

Scorpion build quality is better than Milltek, I've seen too many posts where the Milltek has cracked at the welds.
If you go for the Scorpion, I think there's a guy called Dave Johnson, in some of the Mk3 groups, who works for Scorpion so can get you a discount. I also think renaultsportclub.co.uk has 15% off for members, so worth registering on there too.

As @Micah said, if you go for Scorpion go through Dave Johnson on the RS197/200 Facebook group. I think he'll get you a 20% discount. He doesn't work for Scorpion though, it's just a discount he negotiated for the group.

Scorpion on quality, sound and fit for me. Likely in that order !
Still like my Cobra! Quality is good & it's something different which always appeals to me. Going your own way isn't always the best financially though, but what the heck? You can't take it with you!

I have the ktr non res system, decat and ktr induction kit, it sounds really well, crackels like mad no matter what the revs (has been mapped by rs) 80+ on the motorway is the sweet spot, 70 would drive you nuts, every day wouldn’t bother me at all as long as I wasn’t on the motorway and if I was it would be 80 all the way.

I have an Akrapovic slip on (Back box) on a standard system with K&N filter it's on a 197 got a couple of tips made the other week at powerflow in Antrim to finish it off everything else is standard factory and from the racing I know Akrapovic is not the loudest but tends to sound compacted and enhanced. I'm in Cookstown not far from Cossers and I have almost all the small blows in the exhaust sorted mainly the clamp at the front between the manifold and mid section and I think the back box was on a larger diameter mid pipe but now I have a good seal on the coupler. The tips here were OK but pointed downward slightly so now I have 3" double walled tips that are level. I have a K&N induction kit I took off when I got the car and I'm unlikely to refit it there is some heat distortion on the cone as the last owner had it hanging downward and the heat from the manifold caused it I cant remember exactly how it sounded but remember getting 3MPG better with the panel filter might put it back on for the laugh over the weekend.

Another vote for Scorpion resonated here. Nice improvement on the sound, but subtle enough at 'everyday' speeds. Even better if you can get hold of that discount too.

Scorpion is very popular and will most defo deliver what you are after..i myself run a KTR system..before my car got its megane heart i used to run the ktr cat back with no silencer and a motorway driving wasnt very pleasant..

also added 2 more options onto your poll if that's ok..let me know if you want them removed as I thought the Scorpion option wasnt mentioned..:thumb:

I'm a bit nervous about exhausts. Certainly would like to drive a car with the exhaust on that I would be thinking about before coughing up the cash on one.

I had a Powerflow on my 172 when the oem box broke in half. I had a 2" system copying the original, but without the third silencer, it made a lovely sound but droned like hell at 50mpn (my route to work was a 50 zone with cameras), but it was fine at 70mph.

When I had my 182, the oem system finally gave way at 9yr old and I replaced it with a KTR(Janspeed) resonated sports system.
It was great, nice build quality, only slightly louder than oem but opened up when you stuck your foot down.
Motorway cruising was just a good, if not, more comfortable than standard tbh !!

If/when the exhaust wants replacing on my 200, I would probably go KTR again if its similar to the 182 system.
But I would be tempted at the Akro - needed to hear a members first.

I went for a Milltek Resonated because I was looking for a quiet aftermarket exhaust, as I do lots of motorway driving. At the beginning one couldn't tell an aftermarket system was fitted unless exhaust was very, very hot. Then it began to 'break in' (??) and got sweetly louder and sounded perfect in my opinion. Now after around 8000 miles it's began to sound too loud to my liking, especially when hot. I'll have the car serviced on Friday and will ask them to look for any leaks but it doesn't sound like a leak to me.

I found around 90 being quieter than 70 on my private test track

Same findings with Milltek Res and KTEC Pro. Guess this is down to the engine's sound (valve timing?) rather than the exhaust make / model.

You get what you pay for.
In my opinion if you want good exhaust with nice to drive in motorway save some months and buy akrapovic evo system.

Not sure what mine is but sounds just like Cossers, lovely sound but does get a little frustrating at low speed (especially if you are in the back seats LOL), crackles, pops, bangs etc and at 70 mph would nearly drive you insane........
