Cam Pully Change/uprated? Car very lumpy on idle and a nightmare idle??

I have had my car in for cambelt and pump within the last week. The car was at the garage for a day and a half as they could not time it, including an ex renault tech.

They have advised me that my pully is not standard and that someone has "played" with my VVT system. I did not see the pully so I am not too sure what he means by this, and ideas?

I shown my mate the car and he noticed also how lumpy the car is on idle, he said his old 200 was very smooth on idle and mine was very different. He questioned if the cams have been upgraded but I wasnt aware of any engine mods.

The car is having to go back to the garage as i have a huge flat/splutter problem since fitting, could this be due to them timing the cams wrong due to a potential change to the pully/cam system?

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I am not too sure what a standard car should run like but all this issue around timing and pullies is confusing me.....

I ran a code reader tonight and just looked up the code and its advising of an issue with the inlet actuator so that sounds like the issue?? Do you know which one that is or is it in the body ?

Would it drive with the timing out I am bait worried to drive it now

i am based in Northampton mate

yeh they drive ok.....but can end up bending valves and dropping them if its way out!!!!

had one engine in work that a certain garage timed wrong and it blew the engine twice as they couldn't set it

Will have to wait till they take another look at it, but cheers sounds like it needs timing right as said above I know they had a lot of issues getting it right... Or wrong

Take it to a Specialist close to home. Get it timed right. I wouldn't bother going back to the same place, but I would tell them!

Yeah will have a look need something local though , I was advised they had done lots of these engines before so went there

still confused why they think I have a upgraded/changed pully..

Does the point I mentioned about the inlet actuator make this situation different? Wound that cause the splutter and idle issue if the car is timed right

I've been told today I have a faulty inlet sensor of some kind, but Renault themselves are unable to tell me what part is at fault and what needs replacing, the fun goes on...

how do they know "something" is faulty then :001_rolleyes: if they don't know what it is?
