Brakes finally booked in for a check over!

The car was registered earlier this year on an 11' Plate and used as an demo/company car and then I bought it in July with 1,800 on the clock

From day 1 the brakes were squeaking which didn't bother me too much at first as most cars do it at low speeds but then I was noticing it more and more and at different speeds, temperatures, situations etc.

It finally got too much when the other day I was coming down off a slip road at about 60, started to brake not heavily at all and the brakes locked up and started to sway the front end! Since then I've had a few similar experiences just not quite as bad.

Any idea what could be causing this? and what the dealers outcome will be?

The car now has 4,000 on the clock but the 2K or so driving i have done hasn't been by any means hard driving so I'm pretty sure it couldn't be the pads! any similar experiences?

Booked in to go in Tuesday to be checked over!

could be a few things the fronts are prone to having the pads seize in the calipers and also could be that the brakes havent been put under stress (given some stick now and again) and have glazed the pads causing brake imbalance

or it could be non of the above

just make sure you get them to check and report back before paying out for work that you might be able to do yourself if not warranty

Good luck mate!

I've had squeaky rear brakes for ages, and after 3 visits to my awful dealer (martins Basingstoke) they still havent sorted it. Its going back in on Friday to have the leading edges of the pads chamfered to try to reduce the high frequency vibration that makes it squeal.

Martins (a Renault Sport Specialist) seem to do the work, but dont check thoroughly afterwards to see if its cured - even worse, they tell me in the morning that they will call me to arrange collecting me to take me back to the workshop, but I didnt hear anything, so I called at 4pm, when a lady told me that my car was on its way to my house - without consent for them to drive it that far, or even a phone call to check that I was home. Useless.

I hope you get yours sorted with no problems!

Sorry for moaning on your thread!

I had read some stuff on here about quite a few people having issues with the brakes, it's a shame really considering they are Brembo Discs, Calipers & Pads. I think Brembo is more of a designer brand now though, and all your paying for is the name! Still make some good stuff but for the money AP or Tarrox would be better option I would think, but would never see them on a standard car!

Don't worry about it mate, good to hear what other experiences people have had with their dealers, maybe prepare me for the problems to come :-(

I've heard people talking about changing the pads to Ferodo ds2500 can sometimes stop the sounds and also a lot higher quality pad?

....f1 teams dont think they are a designer brand....dont see tarox on f1 cars

haha fair point, just don't hear the squeaking over the scream of the engines ;-)

they are a quite "open" design in that they collect brake and road dirt easily and the metals used steel/aluminium cause corrosion problems and of course renault dont recommend any brake "service" its all a visual check :001_rolleyes:
