Cadwell update:

Clio was making odd noise from rear(suspect bearing) and had a slight vibration at front(which I think I’ve sorted) so coupled with the forecast hot temperatures I decided to sell my slot Sunday.
Still went up and pinched a few passenger laps. Met a few old and new faces. Very enjoyable day

Will get car on ramps and have her checked over ASAP.

Considering these if the price is right.
Avon ZZR. Only trouble is they’re 215/40/17. Wondering what effect (if any) that might have over the standard 45 profile
Anyone run that size before?

Used to run 40 profile, as did Dave Johnson (with the Rentune stickers) if you've seen him on Facebook.
Car felt alot sharper, but they're harsh on the road.

Smaller overall diameter should give a better acceleration, which I could certainly feel in mine. There's a section of track at the ring which is easily the limiter in 4th on 45 profile. When on 40s I got to the limiter and had to lift off - which is why I'm going back to 45.

What about bouncing off kerbs with the smaller profile?
I’m definitely tempted now that I know someone else has run that profile.
I’ll only use them on track so no problems there.
£190 a set which seems reasonable as They’re a list 1C tyre

I never had an issue really. Kerbs are violent with both profile sizes I think :tearsofjoy:
I've actually ran the 40 on 595's and AD08R, and had no trouble with either.

I suppose at that price, you may aswell have a bash with a set and see what they're like. Could probably shift them in eBay pretty easily if you don't get on with them.

Had issues with odd vibration since fitting new TD wheels.
Visited a mate Sunday to see if we could sort it. Turns out the wheel wasn’t sitting exactly flush and was just catching on stud conversion.
Slight countersink has done the job.

Stripped and cleaned the brakes ready for upcoming trackdays. One of the retaining springs had broken in rear pad. Will email supplier to see what the say as they’ve only just gone in.

Quick visit to see Andy at Engine Dynamics this morning. Wanted to check how the engine was doing since forging so had a quick run on the rollers.
Everything was fine. Has loosened up a bit now it’s been run in which was to be expected.
Some more stuff happening next weekend which I’ll update on accordingly.

Finally sorted a half cage for the Clio. Not going stripped out race car, more a “club sport” look so settled on an anthracite bolt in option from JP Cages. Was really pleased with JP from start to finish and would definitely recommend.

Enables me to run a harness for trackdays now, plus a bit more protection should I finish wheels up:grin:

Lots of debate about running harnesses on a reclining seat but if Recaro say its ok then who am I to argue....

Hi Ben,

Does that cage bolt into existing mounts or did it need drilling and plating?

I see in their website they do a non weld half cage. I also want to go half cage but I don't want to drill holes.

Cheers

Hi John.

The rear legs bolt into existing isofix points. The front legs just behind the seats do bolt through the floor pan so drilling required. Spreader plate and body sealer used. Carpet trimmed accordingly. Very neat job

You could in theory weld a mounting point where the front legs hit and bolt to that mounting point. Best to talk to Josh direct
