Akra Evo too quiet..

OK Guys

Since i know many people are extremely happy with there akras please take it easy on me. I find mine too quiet, It doesn't have the meaty depth i was after. I guess we all like different things which is what makes this forum interesting and i may have got sucked into the Akra hype. Dont get me wrong i think is a fabulous system and of exceptional quality.

Should i try removing the center silencer? or should i sell it and get something else? if so what?

I would still like to pass noise regs at track days though.

I've had my akra fitted around 3 weeks now, done various different kinds of journeys and had time to live with it for a while.
I personally do find the system a little quiet too and if I'm fully honest if i'd have paid full price I would've been somewhat disappointed.

Don't get me wrong it's brilliant for daily driving, motorway driving and sounds fantastic high up in the rev range. But I sort of think that's the problem I have, I think I wanted a little bit more noise on normal driving.. I find myself pushing the car (when I probably shouldn't be) to get some good noise out of the exhaust.. It's a £1100 (RRP) exhaust, I want people to hear it!

If I'm honest I'd personally sell the exhaust and look at other options, once you start cutting it up to remove the silencer etc it becomes less desirable to anyone else.

Maybe a non-res scorpion with decat ? but I'm unsure how you'd get on with noise regs. Sure somebody else will be able to be a little bit more helpful.

Being of a more stately age to plenty of others on here, I find the more restrained noise of the Akra absolutely perfect. It's loud enough to make tunnels fun, and sounds incredible at the top end.

Personally I think it's pitched absolutely perfectly. Plus it has better power than any other option, saves a good chunk of weight and the build quality is through the roof. I think you'd be mad to gut it or mad to sell it to put something not as good on.

If you want noise, drive the Gallardo!

Yeah, sell it. To me
Messed up my last opportunity so now seeking redemption :tongueout:

If anything, this post has been really useful as I was probably waiting on a comment like this to confirm that it would be exactly what I'd want from the system. If you want loud, try a resonated Scorpion first, then maybe a non-res section if it still isn't enough (but reckon it absolutely would be!)

Put a Powerflex upper engine mount on. It will make it a lot louder by magnifying the noise through the cabin, although it'll leave you needing cochlear implants, providing you don't go blind from the mind-numbing headaches :thumb:

Have to be honest when I had it installed before Manifold upgrade it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be - still a nice sound and yes on the motorway drive it makes it easy enough to live with.

Well seeing as Micah has already got first dibs on it, I won't suggest you giving it to me

Very interesting that you've said that. Most people seem to be of the opinion that they're the bee's knees and nothing else comes close! That could well be the £1k hole in their pocket that's talking though  so it's refreshing to hear some different opinions.

As above, the little Clio's tailpipes do have a lot to live up to, being garage brother to a Lambo

Don't get me wrong it is absolutely perfect for what I need and I can see why they are so highly rated, the clio is my daily so it's great for just driving to work without being too asbo..Then on a good blast on a weekend it sounds brilliant again.

I wouldn't ever change it (unless I sold the car) and I would highly recommend one especially as a daily but if it was just a weekend car i'd be having a non resonated scorpion with decat put on.

Can almost see what you mean, most of the time it's perfect, not annoying when driving normally and sounds great when you give it the beans, but I wouldn't mind if it was a little louder on idle (cold starts are nice tho).

To me, putting an exhaust on that is purely for looks and makes driving on the motorway an unpleasant experience is crazy! The Akra does everything brilliantly. Yes it's not the noisiest, but at the top end of the rev range it sounds immense.

would remove the silencer for sure..i did it on my ktr and the difference was quite noticeable...

Completely agree. My akra is too quiet too. I came from a 182 with a Yozza exhaust which is stupidly loud.
I want a bit more noise too.

I reckon a silencer delete would fix the issue although I can't imagine it would retain the original characteristics of the system, in terms of being quiet around town and on the motorway. May also introduce the dreaded flat spot too. I'd recommend a non res decat exhaust system from another manufacturer rather than chopping the akra up.

Pete if you chop the middle silencer it'll be extremely loud, boomy and drony, definitely not great. A member has tried it and put it back on.

I absolutely love the exhaust because of the exact same reason you don't. Because when cruising on the motorway and in the city you can't even tell you've got it but when on full chat magic happens. And that is the reason I'd be more than willing to pay full price (which I didn't). I guess I'm too old for loud exhausts.

I've recently fitted a manifold with no cat and the results are even better I have to say. Still no droning but raspier and louder with unpredictable pops and bangs, loving it:smile:

You pushing your right foot far enough down?

Of course I love it once its hauling ass just i rarely use my stereo and id just like that little bit more low down.

I think youd be right the akras are more tuned exhaust rather than cobbled together i dont really want to mess with it.

I think the problem is i have spoilt myself with big displacement engines over the last few years that have a pleasant growl all over. i not snubbing the clio but sometimes the awesome sound of the akra up top makes you forget its a 4 banger at the end of the day.

Im going to leave it as it is i remembered one of the reasons i went for the akra in the first place because it doesnt sound like any other 4 cylinder with a fart cannon. I have gutted the precat which has made a slight difference but ill sort a manifold at some point too.

Sound quality over quantity it is then.
