advice on purchasing RS200

Hi
Currently looking at a car with a view to buy. I've looked at guide on here which has been really helpful so cheers to all that contributed.
Now wonder if anyone has anything to add that would be helpful, especially concerned about telltale signs of gearbox wear/failure. So any help would be appreciated.
Can anyone advise on costs of refurbing alloys and recommendations of anywhere in south/west York's to get them done.

Gearbox is hit and miss. Unless you have some 6th sense that no one else does there is no way to tell apart from taking it apart and lets be honest who is going to do that.

I would say £50 an alloy is a good price, that's what some places down here in the South East charge but its all dependent on the company of course.

and just like that I summon the Northern lot to help you out...

martin0144 you looking at a specific car or just collecting info in general? I know the gearbox thing is a worry but every car has its issues. With the issues you hear about with diesel cars I'm surprised anybody buys one.

In regards to wheel refurbs prices really do vary from place to place, id say allow £250 and that should cover it. The Wheel Specialist are good at what they do but because of that they can be pricey.

its a specific car not that i am aware of any problems its just something a few of the forum members have commented on and i dont fancy grovelling around under a car changing the box lol

Hi mate, I've not had a local place do my wheels to be honest. Maybe smithandroper may be able to point you to somewhere in the Yorkshire area that they would recommend.
With regards to the gearbox it can be hit and miss, but as a lot of the guides on here say, you need to watch for a 'crunch' as you select a gear (mainly 2nd and 3rd). If there's a specific car maybe you could post up a link and we can see if any of us recognise it for you. Are you aware of the differences between cup and non-cup cars and the different options available? Made a decision on which one you want?

Hi all
Yes we refurbished alloys ourselves we have our own blasting machine, prices start from £65 per wheel. On the box side of things we can also look into any issues.

Also thanks for the mention Robo_#1

I'm 99% sure that's a guys car off ClioSport.net

think his his name is Alex.

Very good spec, has everybtjng really. The yellow is a little marmite, but that's just a little personal thing, and you can change that if need be. Price seems fair too with the spec etc. Looks a good one

only chatted with the person mentioned on the ad and she seems to be the owner.

not sure if i like the yellow trim either but im not too bothered as reckon its not to difficult to change, going to go and have a look over it on saturday looks like a 3.5 hour journey so fingers crossed lol

That trim is easy to change. Good luck! Let us know how you get on

Anybody know what the 'sport ID pack' is?

Also on the car but not in the description are projector lights, a great upgrade over the standard reflectors. Seems on the surface a good car with some, how shall I put it, very 'personal' modifications : dash strips, spoiler. But nothing that can be fixed/changed.

You coulsnt spec a 200 with projector head lights, could only be bought and fitted separately from Renault. It's good to know he's gone through the expense of fitting them, so that to me would give a little confidence that the cars been loved

This I've done myself, much better than the reflectors. I'd say I could change the dash trims in about 1 min.

Surely that's not true? I only say that as I have projector headlights with cornering lights, surely not a retrofit?
