I've just found out that both of mine need doing (Not what you want this time of year!) one is worse than the other and makes a noise but have been told it will fail MOT on both.
My usual local garage have quoted £80-£100 a side fitting plus the part which is £90 each from Ktec (Not looked anywhere else yet) so not much change from £200 per side unfortunately.
Have spoke to a local Renault specialist who have quoted £200 per side, if it isn't cheaper anywhere else I will be using them as I know it's not a easy job and they have done plenty before.

Here's one of the threads with similar issues that you described, loss of power, strange engine noise, and that it goes away when engine is restarted.
If you scroll down you can see he said it was fixed by changing Camshaft sensor.

So this happend tonight.
Wont go into to much detail until everything is sorted but basically someone ran into the side of me, cars going to be a write off i think.

In all honesty i have not had chance to have a proper look just grabbed some pictures at scene of accident and been on phone to insurance most of the night, i do have more photos but dont really want to upload them at the minute until everything is sorted

Having gone through this with my wifes car a couple of months ago - all i can do is advise you to be prepared.
Get all your servicing records, receipts, V5, MOT docs, pictures showing its excellent condition (Progress thread documentation) in order; and starting looking for similar spec'd cars to yours with high prices and print them out etc
Its someones job out there to try to get away with paying you as little as possible !
Be one step ahead...........

Sorry to hear about this mate! Glad everyone's ok though.
They will probably give you some low figure at first but never say yes to the first offer and don't give in, you'll know how much you want and how much you paid etc..
Just had a look at your first post, your car has the belts done, recent gearbox refurb and clutch etc so make sure that you state this to your insurance company, you want to be able to replace the car with a similar spec, mileage and maintenance history or at least get the money to a similar value to another like for like car.

As people have stated be prepared for a battle with the insurance to cover the full cost of what it's actually worth, Shuvs advice was solid; get everything prepared to prove it's value.
