A Stupid Question

Need some help really, this will probably make you all laugh at how basic the question is..

Anyway, next weekend I'm planning to plasti-dip a load of stuff - including the rims.

So.. To take the wheels off are these tools already in the car? (;/ - my previous car was a 1.4 and it had a spare wheel with stuff to change the wheels in the boot - hence my question)

Also is there a drill bit/adapter that I can use to unscrew the nuts with relative ease?

You get a tiny wheel brace and that's about it.. When you look in the car and go "fu#K the jacks missing" don't worry they don't usually have them..

You should have a wheel brace in a polystyrene holder under your boot carpet.

If it's non cup you should have a jack too.

You'll want the locking key as well.

These things are just about ok at the side of the road when you need to get sorted but if your taking the wheels off some proper tools and some axle stands would be a great idea. a good socket set with a 19mm socket/ratchet would be a step in the right direction.

Cheers guys!

I should be alright I guess then as I have general socket sets lying around as well as axle stands and alike (got some when putting on Angel's masterpiece8))

Any ideas on the drill question? Or is it pretty easy to undo the nuts?

A drill won't shift wheel nuts mate. Just a wheel brace will do!

So you admit you are "slow"

I have fat fingers and have to go over it with the delete button

Hoping that i'm not teaching you to suck eggs but you have done this before i take it?

With the socket set and bar, loosen the bolts one turn whilst the weight of the car is still on the wheels, ie not jacked up, then jack up and take them off.

I use a battery powered drill with a socket adapter in it, then fit a socket to it to undo the bolts but it does not have enough power/torque to start them off, i use a breaker bar for that (thats a long bar with a socket on the end)

I've done it before but not on the RS. So yeah explaining it to me like the amateur I am is what I need haha. Can you link me the socket adapter lols - don't want to order the wrong thing

Cheers for the help though mate. :drunk:

These are what i use, but i paid about £6 for mine from an autojumble.

You can buy an impact drill with these allready in but not cheap, the reason i did not use an impact drill is because i have alloy nuts on my other car and it could/would strip threads easy, you'll be allright with your steel bolts though.

Just another tip then, just remember the handbrake is only on the rear wheels, if you jack up the rear first, remember to choc the front wheels up.

Thanks for the advice!

Especially for the handbrake bit, don't want a facepalm moment.
