197: 30k service

06 plate means you're due the big service with cambelt and aux belt. Also spark plugs and brake fluid if they've not been done.

As Ben said, you need to be looking at the 5 Year Service which is a biggie.

Ignore the mileage, you don't want to ignore the belt changes and end up with a burst engine. :worried:

As an aside, the mileage is less important than the age, and prior maintenance. Don't forget the interval on a 197 is 12k miles / 12m, so really you are looking at a 60k miles / 5 year service.

is it possible for someone to put up a full list of what I need doing so I can ring up a garage and get it booked in... as im at work :worried: great help guys many thanks

Off the top of my head;

Oil
Filter
Aux Belt
Cam Belt
Cabin Filter
Plugs (if not done at 4 Years)
Coolant (if not done at 4 Years)
Brake Fluid (if not done at 4 Years)

I think that's what the manual says, but it's upstairs so I've done this from memory.

I've just booked mine in for the 4 Year Service and the only thing on the above list I'm not doing is the belts which I'll get done next year.

From the top of my head

Oil + Filter
Air filter
Cambelt + tensioner
Aux belt + tensioner
Pollen filter

Spark plugs, brake fluid and coolant are all due at 4 years but check they've been done, if not they're extra bits to add to an already expensive service!

EDIT: Willis is too quick! I checked the above in the manual so is definitely correct. It does also list a few things like check and clean air con but I wouldn't be too bothered about that

holy sh!te!!! going to cost a pretty penny! Oh well... certainly needs doing... and I feel the need for some new rear brakes also... quotes at the ready :S

il & filter - 12k miles / 12m
Spark plugs - 36k miles (no time criteria)
Air filter - 24k miles / 24m
Cabin filter - 12k miles / 12m
Aux drive belt - 72k miles / 60m
Timing belt & pulleys - 72k miles / 60m
Fuel filter - 144k miles (no time criteria)
Brake fluid - 72k miles / 48m
Coolant - 72k miles / 48m

Don't forget, each of the above is whichever comes first, and from then on continuing which ever comes first.

From my service book.

Woohoo!!! Winning!!!

From what I've read, I think the going rate for the belt change is around £450!?!

Add on another £200-300 for the rest of the stuff depending on where you go for it. I think rear brakes will be around another £200 again for pads & discs...

Unless you find a specialist you may be best having the belt change done at a main dealer. The other stuff could be done by any indy. For your rear discs I would go for OE quality parts rather than genuine Renault, just make sure that they are from a manufacturer you have heard of (Bosch, Brembo, Ferodo, etc.) and that the rear discs come with the bearings, tone wheels, etc. aready fitted.

No disrespect to your mate, but just find out if he has done a cambelt on one of these before, I am led to believe [by specialists on CS.net] that the RS engine requires special tools and that the autodata specs may not be correct. The suggestion was that belt changes on these [in 1*2's] can easily go horribly wrong if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

Wow going to be a big bill for me come December haha! Luckily I had spark plugs brake fluid and coolant done on my last service, which cost me 200quid for the whole lot which I think was very good!

As Ralphy said, I think you need special tools to do the cambelt on these so make sure you mate has these before letting him loose
