197 Upper Grilles

My upper grilles are looking a little dated and faded so i think im gunna paint them gloss black. Ive seen a few posts where people have done it and it looks smashing, I just want to know how to get the buggers out?

They are clipped in, mine look similar and I am thinking about just getting new ones.

My bumper is off being painted, but they are pretty awkward to get off, even with it removed.

Wish it was as easy as the 1*2 grilles.

If you do want to try getting the grills off while on the car.
Start pulling from lower outside corners.
The clip in along bottom edge and clip behind bumper along top edge.

anyone used the gtechniq c4 stuff? would love to see how that works on the stained and faded 197 grills...

The gtechniq is meant to be fantastic, expensive though.

I have their fabric guard on all the fabrics in mine and water does just bead up on the surface instead of soaking in, fantastic!

I've just gone round my front upper & lower grilles, splitter & side skirts in Autoglym bumper care. Takes a while (especially the lower grille) but has come up like new. Think I'm gonna try the chemical guys dressing next though, as it's supposed to be more durable.

If they are anything like the 182s then it's just a load of awkward clips.

Totally worth painting them though!

Just pull and they come out.
Yeh. Well worth it!
And I have a diffuser in primer ready for gloss black too.
