My lad is coming up to 18 yr old, and is now ready to sell his motorbike and buy his first car.

Insurance is the stumbling block.

Wondering who you younger guys who have a Clio 172/182/197/200 or Twingo RS133 or a GT are getting insured with?
He's got his eye on white RS133 Cups.

He's 18 early March.
Essentially he will have 1 yr no claims bonus on the bike insurance but we don't think many people will let him carry that over onto the car.

Can get a car for around £2500 and the insurance is looking around £2200 he says. :pensive:
I've not had a shop around or rung my insurer yet.

Cheers all

James

Got my Clio as my first car at 21 so a little older but cheapest i got was £3.5k (no black box ) through a company called MCE they seemed to do either bike or convicted driver insurance but gave me the best deal for a normal fully comp cover (found through comparison sites as brokers kept turning me away).
Adrian Flux, Direct Line, Greenlight and the rest either didn't quote or were higher with a black box... not sure on specifics of requirements to get cover but went to Brentacre and have dropped to £1.1 now with my 1 year no claims.

Hope some of that is of some help

Your best bet in terms of mainstream insurers is Admiral/elephant/other companies under that umbrella and in terms of specialists, I can't recommended Sky insurance enough. Great company to deal with and no one can get near their quotes from my experience.

Cheers fellas.

I am with Admiral so hopefully they can do something for us.
I have 3 cars already insured with them

2200 for a Twingo RS seems more than reasonable to me.
My first car (1.6 Focus) was around that price 10 years ago :tearsofjoy:

I was about to say the same, I paid that on a Corsa I got given off my uncle (a mechanic) MOT failure, o had to fix it and pass MOT myself....I paid like £1750 about 13 years ago lol

Mark, try Brentacre, as non-power mods are free (but they might have an age limit), I went with them so many years ago when I had a SEAT Ibiza GTI 16V, no one would insure me with mods, but they allowed as many wheel changes I had over 2 years and suspension etc. I was like 21 I think when I got it and they were cheap!

I'm still with them since then, as they were brilliant and still are.

Cheers Mark,
That looks great too. I better not shown him that :sunglasses:

£1500 with 1yr NCD doesn't sound toooo bad.

Must admit it was a bargain, full service history, belts done a couple of years ago. Does have a synchro issue but for what he paid it saved him a couple of grand.

His cheapest quote do far was admiral I think.
