Sorry about late update but here was the situation. Old starter motor was dodgy and would only start with an encouraging knock or bump start. Had this out and replaced with another. Problem sorted. I managed to get a really good price both on part and fitting so luckily this only cost £150...

Well to be honest getting the price down from around £400 to £150 all in, they can keep it - I'm not complaining. I just want her running smooth as silk again.

Apparently to get at starter motor and remove/replace you have to remove the heat shield. In doing this they said the bolts that hold them in place may need replacing as well (6nr. in total). Luckily my newly sourced part comes with heat shield and all fixtures and fittings so shouldn't have any...

Just picked her up from the garage. Started first time with no work done - however no such luck when I got it back to work, still won't go without an encouraging nudge to the starter.... Getting car booked in as soon as parts arrive and hopefully that will be this little hiccup sorted :chair...

So you think £158 labour is a little too much? I'm going to try get a better price for fitting but I know and trust these people which is half the battle now'a days.

Well just to keep you upto date, The garage that quoted me £400 to source and fit have now quoted me £158 for fitting only as I have been able to source the part for £100 with heat-shield and all fixtures and fittings. I appreciate that it may be a bit of a job getting to and replacing...

Ok - So dropped car in garage this morning. They are saying starter problem. They said they were receiving a voltage at the starter but no movement. If they give it a bit of a 'whack' it starts but not every time. Sounds to me like a dodgy connection or corrosion within the motor itself...

Ok - checked fuses all seem good. Checked all connections they too look good (except the white cable which runs over the fuse box this is not connected). Getting three 'beeps' on central locking now. Noise as far as starter motor not so much as a tick. Picture on opening her up, untouched...

Do apologise, that was the one I was on about but because I was at work didn't have tools to even take aux intake out. Thought I would have to remove the lot battery and all to get at wiring to starter and fuses. Great help guys and thanks a lot for the picture. I'll let you know how it goes -...

Hahah! I only wish mine was down to something I could put my finger on... Just one day, rocked down to car and no go... I think I have found the fuse assembly you are on about ben_r1. Didn't realise it would be a battery out jobby, so will have to wait until I get back from work to have a...

Ah ok ben_r1, I will have a look at that first off. Thanks a lot for the heads up. I have booked it in tomorrow morning first thing for a diagnostic, thinking it could be electrical as much as mechanical. Is there something that would trip this fuse or something causing it to act so...

What a ball-ache... I thought starter from the outset. Worse thing is I just don't have the facilities or garage to sort it myself any more so going to end up paying through the teeth for this. Warranty not gone for 2 months and this is the first mechanical problem I have had with the Clio...

battery seems fine - running at 12v through ignition. flickers down to about 11v when trying to start. Ill give her a whack and see if there is any movement. She played up the other day, left over night and started up fine the next day. The same 'patience' doesn't seem to have fixed it...

Bit of a worry. Jumped in car this morning and she didn't want to start. Ignition engages, dash lights up, fuel primes but just a click and no start... Makes me think starter over immobiliser... Tried giving her a slight rock in gear to try and move anything jammed, nothing... I'm...

Got a new job and moved to a new city. Been crazy! Took a hit on pay but enjoying the work a lot more - only downside is the car doesn't get as much attention as i'd like. I've hardly had a minute to myself nevermind time to go online, wouldn't have even realised without the bump from a2on...

Hello mate, sorry for late response! I have seen a nice looking ultra red about, i always flash or wave :p we should definitely go for a drive. I went out the other day with one of the lads off here down all the eagle back roads. Was a good laugh, but need new tyres now ;)
