    197: Buyers Guide

Wrote this a while back for PFC, but they never even replied so here it is for public consumption. At its launch in 2006 the Clio 197 was met with almost universal praise from the British motoring press as here was a quick little hatch that felt much more mature than its 1*2 predecessors...

197: Comparisons to a Fiesta ST

Go for the newest one you can; older cars are prone to some expensive issues such as exhaust manifolds, steering track rods (not arms), ball joints, amongst other things. These seem to be a consequence of age rather than mileage.

197: Comparisons to a Fiesta ST

I think auto lights / wipers were actually an option on the early cars at least. Things to look for are: the darker headlamps (and make sure the cornering lights work) Climate control (regular A/C controls look a bit Playmobil) Recaros are nice and will make resale easier, but don't pay too...

Enhancement Detail - 380bhp Ford Sierra Cossie

According to my Dad (who had 2 x 2WD Sapphire and 1 x 4WD Sapphire) the 3dr's were particularly lethal in the wet. Would be a lovely thing to have in the dream garage. Personally I would prefer a standard car, ideally an RS500, but unmolested examples of those are particularly rare and expensive.

    Brembo & Ferodo Front discs...

Aren't the first two links for the exact same product, just described slightly differently? Brembo only do "high carbon" discs for the 197/200/225 according to their catalogue, so both are the same.

    2nd car?

Focus, either 1.6 petrol or any diesel. Fun to drive, cheap to maintain, economical.

    Mattie's FF Track Car

Looks smart, if you haven't mounted your TPMS display yet, I have a gear lever surround that I modified slightly to allow the cable through.

    Rockys new ride (munich content)

What engine? Those wheels will make it drive like a dog, love it as standard but the mods you are making would make it far too impractical for me, and I am more about handling than looks. Each to their own though.

    Windscreen repair insurance question.

Sounds very odd, I have never known a glass claim count.

    Install parrot with cabasse system

You need to run the line out and mute wires to the unit under the seat; you will need an ISO plug to cut up to add the plug prong to the plug going into the under seat unit for the mute wire. You will need a CD ROM audio cable to cut up to get four small sockets to go into the red plug for the...

    Thinking about changing cars

Part of the reason I sold mine was because I was concerned about durability. I think if you have a low mileage car with full Ren history then they will probably make a reasonable contribution outside of warranty and do seem excellent within warranty. If you don't have a full Ren history then...

    Fitted Dim Mirror.....

Windscreen bracket is the same. You do need to add two cables, ignition switched and earth.

    Your thoughts please :)

Powder coating is usually more durable, I had the wheels on my Clio powder coated and they were fine, no marks.

Show me your Oulton Park roll cage

You can refit the quarter panels, definitely. You would get a neater installation if you fully remove the rear seatbelts, not sure if that would cause a problem with the SRS system though.

    Fitted Dim Mirror.....

Very easy, so long as you don't crack screen - d'oh! Very worthwhile mod though, fitted several now.
