197: Decided to stop spending money on the Clio.

I also get the impression that the first generation aren't especially reliable, my sister has a 55 plate Cooper and though great fun to drive I have had to change the elec window motor, thermostat housing, lubricate steering column (MINI dealer wanted to replace it), and various other bits and bobs.

    Removing sills?

I would guess applying heat. I have some spare sill clips if anyone wants them. Broke some of mine, bought replacements but never got around to fitting them.

197: Decided to stop spending money on the Clio.

If you don't need a 4 seat car then what about an Elise or MX-5, Boxster, Z4?

    Air conditioning fault

Take it to your local Ren dealer. If the charge gets low the ECU will isolate the compressor. You need a Renault CLIP system to reactivate. Also the Ren dealer is likely to rectify the wiring under warranty if it is faulty, they did on mine and it was well outside the warranty period.

Anyone else on here working on the shard london

Not involved as such but our head office used to be on that site, it was demolished to make way for the Shard.

    197 Second Hand.

I just saw an 0707 with 42k go through a trade auction @ £5,050. Nice standard car with sunroof and SH. Add £500 or so for a private purchase and that is probably a reasonable indication of what you should be able to get.

    Jonesy! Dash display!

Don't forget the Cabasse display is dot matrix, would that help?

The biggest variance is likely to be due to the calibration of the RR, potentially making it a bit pointless.

    Starter Gone?

It is a real faff, I had to refit my starter heat shield after we swapped the manifold and that took ages, just because it was a bugger to get it back in place. Why do you need a new heat shield? There is a reinforcement under the car that is held in place with 4 nuts, you will need to remove...

How to clean blocked drainage pipes?

Get some water sitting in the scuttle, arch liner out, poke up pipe with long screwdriver. Scuttle drains, flushing pipe. Job done.

    Highest mileage?

Cheers! My 56 plate was on 95k when I sold it earlier this year. There were some issues (ball joint, dropping drivers door, bolster wear, clutch & slave, worn syncro, blowing exhaust manifold, weeping from a rocker cover bolt), but with the exception of the clutch & slave these seem common...

All wrong, it's the Ford RS200!

First taster of RS Clio with £4-£5k?

Just to add my view on this, not the 1*2 Vs 197 but the whole running a cheap 197... Cheaper 197's are fine but understand why and what you are likely to have to spend money on. While I had to do some repairs to my mileagey 197 these seemed common for cars of that age and not necessarily...

    Tires for Cup Racer Speedlines?

I would stick with 215/45 unless you have a good reason to change. 215/45 Contis were fine on my Cup Racer 8j's

    TRW Pads Rear!

There tends to be little or no difference between standard pads from tier 1 manufacturers so I doubt you would notice any difference.

    Megane CC (updated/page 17)

You are not joking, we were looking at going in the autumn but no way can I afford / am I prepared to spend that! Looking forward to seeing this progress, should look good!

Here we go again! Thinking of selling the 197?

If you want a track and road car then either stick with the Clio or get an Elise/VX220, I think a 350z would be disappointing on track. How about a 3.0 Z4, S2000 or Boxster S? Or a dedicated track car and a shed?

    ebay gearbox

Make sure you do the clutch and slave at the same time, certainly the slave, but make sure you can get a clutch pronto in case yours is worn

    Cabasse head unit change.

Don't forget you need to take the aerial, steering control and display wiring from under the drivers seat. The hole in the dash is the same as any Clio, you will need a fascia adaptor.
