On Cup dampers the drop is about 6mm less than the stated 30/40. Mine with 30/40 :

Think instead of cutting the circular holes, would look loads better cut as a large RS.

Not that i'm aware of. Had for nearly 2 years, last of the 197's to be made, gearbox has allways been perfect.

Gearboxes, mounts,ball joints, but driveshafts seem very rare fault

Finally sorted at last. Indeed was the offside driveshaft.

Assumed meant 2L turbo as against 1.6L turbo.

Don't think torching it would be great idea, nearly done in the past after blowing engines and turbos, didn't have the balls ! As Chris said, put the K20 in. Someone will need the block in the future. Maybe karma ?
