Only started building the BMW May this year Yiannis, glad you're enjoying reading the progress... 1st December So will the car being so flawless over the last two track days I had a chance to go back to Oulton Park the following weekend. A friend of mine was taking his freshly built 182 down...

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Update - 25th November 2018 So It's been a while since I've been on the forum, only popped on here and there to reply to PM's I've received keeping in touch with people. Lots of new build threads and projects on here now. This thread had ended up nearly onto the 3rd page in this section. Since...

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Thanks Pav when I wrote it all down there was stuff in there I didn't even think of, only when I went back through the build photos did I remember some things.

LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

Wiring looks spot on and the ideas/safety features you’re adding to it sound perfect too. One of the main advantages of running stand alone is being able to calibrate things like that also being able to easily feed that data into the dash too for the data logging. Job for mine one day in the...

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Not a lot at the moment just use it on track days and enjoy it. Need to finish off the oil cooler install before Oulton. Long term goals will just be to build a plated diff into the spare diff i’ve got in the garage, that’s also a shorter 3.38 final drive too.

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

A Few people have asked me about the full spec of the car now it's built, while I'm away on a holiday I've finally got around to typing one up. Seeing it all written down like that makes you realise how much of the car was actually rebuilt when I was building it. I'd forgotten a lot of the parts...

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Thanks Ben. That engine and exhaust note was the reason I wanted to move to the E46. Really adds to the thrill and drama when driving it. Booked a track day for the 24th November at Oulton Park, nice local track day for me on a Saturday.

Looking good. How was the Renault sport day? First one I've not been to for a few years with me no longer owning one.

    Mark's Nimbus 197 T Cup

Nice strong numbers there mate and holds power well. Standard engine and 225 turbo? Cant remember what you build this to in the end.

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Bit of maintenance before the next track day continues. Put plates on the car and drove it over to EFI Tuning just to run it on the Dyno and log the AFR's to see how the car was running with the new manifold, exhaust and engine work and also to see what power it makes. Ran on the Dyno 238bhp...

Mike's Clio 200 track day car

I always ran standard pads without any issues but ideally should have been running something with a little more bite like. PBS rear pad wouldn’t be a bad shout.

Mike's Clio 200 track day car

Ds1.11 are a much better and consistent track pad that’s not as abrasive on discs as the ds3000, many people recommend the 1.11’s over them. I ran mine for about 8-10 tracks days with 335mm rotors and still had life left in them. Worth the money!

    Bought a broken 197

Knowing what I know now if you picked it up for a cheap price being a broken/none running I’d Pick up a cheap standard engine. Throw that in, strip it and spend the money on the mods and use it on track!

    Darren's DB 197 F1 Team

Looks good mate. Shame about the problems at the start regarding the syncros and ball joints. They’re the main issues with these cars plus the manifold which all seem to be done. Once those big jobs are sorted you’re set for a while then!

Albi Blue 200 >> BMW E46 Track Car

Update - So since the track day I've not really touched the car. I worked so hard on it in the 8 weeks leading up to the track day mostly 12 hour weekends and then another 6 hours on it after work most evenings it was really rewarding to drive it on track but needed a little break away from it...

Crunching TL4.........*NOW WITH POSSIBLE BETTER SYNCHRO RINGS!!

I’ll keep that in mind. Going to remove it at some point and do the detent springs/bushes as 5th’s a little tight every now and then but it’s not a Piority job as it’s a fair bit of work to remove it just to do that, the clutch and flywheel has already been done. Will probably need input shaft...
