Dead 197 - Electrical Issue…

My 08 197 just cut out on me. As it died it threw up ABS, Traction, Braking etc low battery voltage faults. Coasted to a stop and put on hazards. Later wouldn’t turn rose off when button pushed.

AA came and checked all fuses, tried it on jumper packs. His OBD reader powered on but could not connect to the computer. He then towed me home.

The symptoms…

Immob light flashing, press brake and then start button…..

Immob light goes solid, all check lights on except check engine. Headlamp motors make a little whirr and steering unlocks.

Starter does not engage and no solenoid clicks. No fuel pump priming.

All check lights go out. But then Braking, ESP etc faults appear on text display. Immob light still solid.

Battery fully charged, and also tried another good battery.

Jump the starter trigger wire in fuse box (which is clean and dry) and the starter engages but doesn’t fire.

My code reader does not connect to the computer. Says it is not plugged in or ignition is not on. But it is because it powers up the code reader.

TLDR ignition powers on, but no crank and no start. No power to OBD port to read. Starter motor turns ok when solenoid directly triggered.

The box was replaced last year and I have kept it dry since.

Have ordered a new crank sensor. Just in case. But reaching wits end.
 
Not a bad shout, you might need ignition on to connect to all the computers, iirc you have to put the key card in the slot and hold start/stop for 5 seconds or something like that...
 
Ignition turns on fine. Dash lights up.

It then just doesn’t do anything but spit some ABS, battery, esp, etc faults at me.
 
It will still crank with crank sensor failed.

Battery needs load testing properly. If that's ok, the battery fuses. If they're ok, then start looking through the power cables and earths.
 
Are you sure the obd port is not working? Is it keyless? Put it in first gear,foot on the brake,press start button and obd should work,then once connected if you can see any rpm when you crank the crankshaft sensor is working and you don't waste your money.

Yes, keyless.

OBD has power as it powers the reader. The reader does not connect to ECU to read anything so would indicate no power to ECU? Or immobilised As the red light is on?
 
Quite strange,i believe if the orange check engine light doesnt come on at all that means the ecu has no power to it.

There is a fuse for the obd port,number 4,just make sure to check it just in case.

Also fuse 1 for the ecu.

Also double check the relevant fuses in the uch in the engine compartment.

if its keyless did you follow the "forced ignition on" procedure....if not then obd2 will not work

May have found the culprit R2 connector by passenger seat been bridged before and wrapped in plastic, but there are plenty of issues in there….
Hope that sorting this mess out works….

Well done! That issue will affect the immobilizer and fuel pump, so it’s essential to first identify the door or source of the leak. Burning can also impact the fuses, and the Can Bus runs through that area as well. The bottom two connectors at the top have color abbreviations after the part number: BE (Blue in French) and BA (White). I have to admit, I wouldn’t have thought to check that area, but it’s a good reminder for everyone to inspect their car for water under the carpets and check the condition of the connectors.

Well, reconnected everything and problem persists as before.

Anyone got a pin out diagram for the ECU? Can only fine diagrams for the 2plug version, mine has 3.

Right, a little bit of an update.

I decided the problem was with the ECU or BCM, so I bought a full set of ECU/BCM/Steering lock and keys.

And........ problem still persists.

So what is it that would cause the immobilizer to cut ignition while driving, and prevent cranking or fuel pump priming, while throwing up all the ABS/ECS/Battery etc errors?

I did change the fuse/relay box under the bonnet a year or so ago when the headlights started to act up. It cured the problem, so I might head that way again. Or fuel pump? Usually if there is a fuel pump issue the immob would kick in just in case it was pumping fuel everywhere.

I dunno, im at a loss. Maybe time to start thinking about calling it a day and selling as a non runner, or breaking it for its recaros, bilsteins, brembos, miltek, K-Tec goodies.......
