Turn steering and start fault

The car is currently being rebuilt and I went to power the car yesterday to add a few bits to the fuse box on the ignition circuit.
Everything that should have 12v power does and the clocks light up. Unfortunately I get the ever common turn steering wheel message View attachment IMG_0615.jpeg
The steering column isn’t the original as a friend needed one for his but replaced mine after removing my lock module. He had to remove the lock mechanism while it was locked but said he did so carefully and this has now been fitted to the new column.
The steering lock isn’t engaged and the car won’t try to start. Would it be right to think the lock is knackered and needs to be replaced? Is there a way of trying to bring them back to life at all? I can remove the bolt and drop it from the column still.
Any help would be appreciated. The engine is currently out of the car but all ground connections are made? I don’t think this would affect the ignition mode although could be wrong

I've seen this on a lightly hit car first you need to get a diagnostic tool and see what computers you can see on the multiplex network, you have done work to the looms and relocated the battery as far as I can see. The car I have seen had no comm's with the ABS, ECU, and airbag as far as I remember so those computers are either not getting power or the can bus between them is broken the Renault clip diagnostic can show how they are linked like if one goes down then the others linked after it go down as well if you understand.

Ok I’ll see if I can get it plugged in. The reason I wondered on the steering lock side of things was that all was working before we switched columns. The inside has been painted but all earths seem to be good. I will double check the connections on the ecu, abs and airbag module as everything has been unplugged and I believe plugged in but it could and hopefully is something simple
