Goodbye Goose

Not your usual good-bye thread... I, unfortunately, wrote it off last week!

I arrived home after work last Thursday only to get a last minute invite for dinner (naturally, I accepted), it was a warm evening so I thought I'd take the Clio out for a run as it hadn't been driven since the weekend. The Turkish was great, thoroughly enjoyed it, so headed home on my usual route.

I'm still not entirely sure what happened - one second I was cruising around a fairly relaxed bend (40mph, supposedly a few mates have done 90 around it - mad.) and the next I'm watching a wooded hedge attempt to break its way through my windscreen. In total I grounded two small birch trees and 10m of hedging. I smacked my head pretty hard and had to smash an already-cracked window to vacate the car but was otherwise unharmed. No airbags - very disappointed, I'm sure a curtain airbag would've saved the grapefruit-sized bruise of the side of my head... night in hospital as a precaution for my 'moderate concussion' was on the cards.

I was aware of an HID'd BMW chav blasting up behind me before I went around the corner, I was unsure whether or not he punted me or I accidentally hit the puddle/verge on the corner (likely the later, no marks of the rear bumper). Wrote down his number as a witness (even though he rather oddly denies seeing anything!!) - it seemed to me like he wanted to make a quick getaway so I let him once the security guards arrived and spoke to him.

Security guards, I hear you ask? Yes, well. I happend to crash into the hedge of a very well known stud...more importantly, I happened to park my car in a ditch no-less-than 15m away from the most valuable racehorse in the world. If you follow horse racing you should know who I'm talking about. Whoops! Naturally, a couple floppy-haired-Ralph-Lauren-wearing-racing-type assholes appeared to assert their authority on the poor commoner with his chav wagon in their hedge.

"Have you been down this road before? Or any road, for that matter?"

"Do you know whose hedge you've just crashed into?"

"You're not going to be able to afford to fix that are you, mate?"
Were a few of my favourite quotes...

Always like to amuse these types in a dick waving contest before shooting off. Queue arrival of neighbour in my Mercedes lol. "Here's a 50 for your groundskeepers (were chopping the birch trees up), make sure it gets to them" cya.

I don't normally do things like that, but the majority went out of their way for me so it's the least I could do. They'll get a crate of beers when I get time, too.

Nothing too spectacular: 0FAF639B-04C2-4330-BEF5-6CB69F59C96F_zpscdquwjeu.jpg

I'm still waiting to hear back from the insurance company...having doubts as to whether or not they'll pay out (I already know it's a total loss). As always with claims.

Unsure if I should get another Clio. I like having a small car around, especially a rare one like ours, but I don't think I can justify ordering a new one...yet.

Apologies for wrecking an increasingly rare R27 and not having a particularly valid excuse for it!

Glad your okay mate! Lucky escape.. Only a piece of metal at the end of the day.

No airbags is worrying tbh, surely should have deployed.

Ahhhhhhh ****! :worried: very bad news buddy. But most importantly, your safe. It's just a piece of metal the car. Yes it's rare, but I'd rather a rare car go than myself.

Why are you unsure if they'll pay out?

All the best buddy, keep us updated.

Looking at the pics I'd say you might get that back and repaired. Damage doesn't look too bad, but regardless too the car, the main thing is you got out of it and are alive!

Sorry to hear this man, never nice to see such a nice car end up this way. However, at least your escaped in one piece.

Gutted for you goose, hit the puddle then liftoff oversteer perhaps?

Wouldn't be hard for it to happen on a bend even at 40.

Waits for vultures asking if it has recaros......

Thanks guys.

Im unsure if they'll pay out because I'm always sceptical of insurance companies...there's always small print.

The car is 100% a write off. The evaluator called to say that he totalled £8000 worth of repairs before giving up counting...he hadn't even looked under the car at that point!

I think the airbags didn't deploy because of the gradual (relatively) deceleration into the hedge. Although there we a few mighty whacks, I suspect there wasn't a hard enough hit to fire the airbags.

Nail on the head, l/o oversteer doesn't normally happen unless I'm well up the rev range though but that's probably what happened.

I might buy the Clio back and part it...depends on the price I get quoted! So get queuing.

Yeah but the puddle could have induced it and the corner + natural liftoff reaction to an unexpected situation would just made it worse.

You're going slowly, not expecting anything like it and minds on the beamer. Boom before you know it, it's all bushes and branches.

Daft thing is if you were pushing the chances are you'd have caught it as you would have been switched on.

Properly gutted for you mate, hope you get everything sorted quickly and back on the road.

Great decision with the wing mirrors by the way, you just never know when someone is going to come past it too close!!

Sod the car as long as your ok that's all that maters.Shame though :worried: about the car

Please tell me you didn't crash near Frankel...

Also recaro's...

Edit; Just kidding, glad you're ok mate but as everyone else has said car can be replaced people can't be etc etc

Yep. Would be uninsurable for the rest of my life I think! Whose idea was it to put his stable next to a road, anyway?

Oh sweet jesus I think you would have been in the papers for all the reasons if that did happen haha!

That things penis is a money making machine!
