PB Engine mounts

Hello everyone, i know similar questions get asked on here but i need a straight answer.

i am going to buy a full set of yellow poly bushes for the engine/box mounts.

is it wise to replace the actual mount supports or just go ahead and insert the poly bushes within them? - my only concern is i have slight movement under acceleration from the engine now.. so for peace of mind i was going to buy new and then buy the yellow inserts.

if its not needed to buy new i will go ahead and just buy the inserts.

Thanks all

You should be fine to just add the inserts. The original mounts are designed to have some movement (this helps absorb the vibrations). The only time i have seen people put a new mount is the lower engine mount where the old style rubber ones have ripped slightly.

Noted! - thanks for the quick reply. ill study the mounts once they have been removed

I think it's going to depend on the condition of your mounts now. If they are perished (dry cracked or fully collapsed), you are probably going to need new ones or good condition used ones just to insert the poly bushes into.

I know when I did the lower engine mount, my mechanic struggled inserting the powerflex bush because it has 2 small cylinders that go into openings in the rubber bushing, an my mount was about 1/2 the size it was supposed to be bc the rubber was collapsing. He managed to fit the bush after some struggle. I think the upper and lower engine mounts, and the dogbone mount will be like that.

Have a look on the general condition of your mounts before ordering anything.

Ah I see, yeah it's an annoying one as sometimes I feel like the engine movement is exadurated but I think it's just my mind playing tricks on me.

Either way I will be buying some yellow inserts. But as you say with your previous struggles I will defo check the mounts before I apply the inserts.

Does this mean you have slightly worn/shot mounts?

I pulled them off the car 2 years ago and got all new mounts. Where I live, I have to have the AC going all the time in the summer and the bushes drove me nuts because the steering wheel would vibrate badly when idling, so if you are in traffic a lot or stop and go it was really annoying.

In the winter, without AC on, the car was perfect. The rocking of the engine and the weird shift action into 3rd was virtually eliminated. I might go back to it later, we shall see.
