Driveshafts lifespan?

Anyone know what the expected lifespan of the driveshafts on the Mk3 Clio is? Mine have done just over 115k kms, and looks like the shorter one (drivers side) has a CV joint that is going bad. I want to figure out if its because of mishandling from the last garage, or age.

Also, when I replace it, should I change both or just one?

I have a meglio, with a 225 box. I had the CV joint started to tick on lock, so used the original shaft, with a new CV joint. Car is used for shopping, and around 6 track days a year, so my driveshaft, has lasted around 8 years, 75000 miles. Changing only one, will be fine.

Does it have a rubber outer gaitor or plastic?

Do you recall where you got the CV joint from / the part number? I wouldn't mind trying that as a fix

Right, so my garage is telling me the longer driveshaft is bent. I had no warning until I started getting a vibration when pulling away from a stop.

Anyone experience a bent driveshaft on the 197/200s? Are you lowered or stock?

Is this a normal thing for our cars?

Hi guys jumping on this thread. My NS CV joint has gone I think. Started to clunk yesterday and when I got underneath to have a look the boot has slipped off. Not sure how long it's been like. Can you definitely just change the outer CV joint without having to replace the whole shaft? And if so how long does this take roughly? Cheers.

I think you can Robbie. I would suggest searching for CV joints on the forum, there are a few posts specifically about that in here. I know one or two guys have posted they did this change as well, it was just a challenge finding the part as Renault will only sell you a complete driveshaft (that I know of)

Beaniesport changed my cv boot but it wasn’t cheap as there’s a fair bit of labour involved.
New driveshaft would be my choice if it happens again. Doesn’t have to be a Renault one there are alternatives
