Anyone near London with Leather / Alcantara Recaros? + random pish thread

As the title. Leather only would be a help too if no one has half and half.

Understandably, Mrs M would like to see some retrimmed Recaros in the flesh before she shells a good dollop of funds on having hers done.

Anyone within an hour of London who wouldn't mind us coming and having a look?

Cheers guys

Mes

WOW!!!! 15k for that...
I think not, it’s nice but not worth it! It’s on 18’s but that’s some arch gap it’s got!

I bet belts haven’t been done

I'd give a kidney for a tidy Raider, belts or no belts. Maybe in a few years time...

I could tell you that somebody in OZ is currently selling a set of carbon/alcantara ones for an ok price or that I got a great offer for some brand new covers (incl. seat heating) of the same type...but won't because of your insult against matt grey. :chris2:

Btw, you're aware that the R26.R sports exactly the same rims like the Raider?

I believe the words I used were "posh paint job" no?

But no biggie, we're going for a retrim, not new seats...

You're aware the Megane is a bigger car right?

And? That's not insulting?

I bet the new covers I can get are cheaper than a retrim. I mean depending on what you're going for but I'd guess you don't want to have them covered in toilet paper, right?

Bigger is always better. Ask your wife!:tonguewink:

Look up the definition of “posh”? In my world calling something “posh” refers to high end, classy, good quality. Take it how you like, that car above is still massively overpriced!

And of course, we’ll be scouring the Internet to find the “least posh” place we can and getting them covered in recycled toilet paper by a blind baboon. But yes, I’m sure yours will be cheaper.

Finally, you’re seriously telling me the Clio runs better on 18’s than it does on 17’s? Seriously? While you’re waving your big willy 18’s around, you might want to check the weight of the Raider wheels. They might look nice but you’ll do very well indeed to find anyone with heavier wheels on their Clio.

I’ll stick with my little willy 17” ultralights thanks. :thumb:

You’re a laugh a minute mate

See, I don't want to start any beef but we both know how your posh comment was ment and it clearly wasn't to say "high end, classy or good quality" in this case.

It's ok if you're not interested but your missing out on something.

I'd say the difference is at best marginal. I mean why do you think RS put them on the R26.R which is the top model and most "raciest" of this mark of the Megane from what I know?

I'd surely also get some 17" for track use but the thing is that I'm driving on the road 99,9% of the time and there it's actually absolutely irrelevant. The only difference between a 17" to an 18" will be the acceleration and top speed. And that's only a very, very small difference if really measurable at all.

Ahm...ja.

1. Correction, I KNOW how it was meant. You clearly don't. Posh means posh, however you would like to spin it. But don't start by saying you don't want beef and then telling other people what they think. You'll end up making a fool of yourself. The Raider is a lovely car, with excellent paint, awesome seats and pretty wheels. Clear enough? Wanna try and twist that to suit your issue? That doesn't change the fact it's just a 200 with some "posh" extras. Nor does it change the fact that £15k is a crazy price for that car. I'm sorry if that puts your knickers in a twist but it's the truth. Just as our R27 is in reality just a full fat 197 with cup pack, stickers and a plaque. Doesn't make either of them something amazing compared to the standard cars. Just more expensive.

2. I highly doubt that I'm missing out on anything, and I've identified my toilet paper supplier and I'm happy with them. Thanks for your kind offer but we'll have to decline this time I guess. Sad stories.

3. Your R26.R wheels are HEAVY there's no getting around that. It's not marginal. You could lose over 3kg PER CORNER of unsprung, rotational mass by having some little willy light-weight 17s on. If you did, you'd see why it's FAR from marginal and it's laughable to claim you wouldn't notice on the road either. You would. And that's even before we mention moment of inertia or the fact that the suspension has less to deal with. I'm not an engineer, nor do I have that much knowledge about these things. Maybe ask someone who is a specialist that you trust. Please?

4. Why did Renault put them on their "raciest" car? You tell me? Because they look good? Because they're cheaper than forged? You won't need to dig very far into the Megane forums before you find many R26.R owners wanting to replace the heavy standard wheels. Lots of manufacturers make odd decisions, this is one of them. Renault are hardly infallible in that respect. Don't just take my word for it, there's a whole plethora of information out there that will explain it to you. But of course, I'm sure you know best.

 Most amusing once again. Care to enlighten us further?

If I bought a Clio3 with ‘those’ 18’s on; i would very likely be swapping out sharpish....

I’m not hugely into stance and wouldnt be looking to slam it for minimal arch gap, visually they are barely indistinguishable from standard 197 wheels, they are heavy; and presumably with lower profile tyres on compared to 17’s - ride quality on real U.K. roads would be worse.

Sometimes bigger is better. For me in this example; they are only bigger. Unless I’ve missed something (?).

So what was the point of them anyway. Anyone know. ‘Just’ to be different ? Could have achieved that with a joint venture with OZ / other large wheel manufacture etc to sit it on something really special with real benefits....

1. I don't care what the text book defintion for posh is. It's the context that matters and this clearly wasn't ment as a compliment but keep pretending it was. Somebody may actually believe it but the one isn't going to be me. No matter what you say now. Besides that I never talked about the price of the respective car.

2. Then you don't. It's your decision finally.

3. The difference is marginal in the overall picture. Especially if we're talking about driving on the road with the attached limitations. The suspension mainly has to deal with the weight of the car and forces related to it. It's not there to deal with the weight of the unsprung mass in the first place but I'm not denying that there is a difference at all. I'm just saying it's negligible in the overall picture. What's next? Are you going to tell me that some tyres are lighter than others and will therefore give you any relevant gains in what ever?

4. Sure, Renault throws out a "hard-line" tracktool and then ruins everything with some crappy wheels just for the looks. Did it ever dawned on you that they did simply go for these rims because they came to the conclusion that the difference actually is marginal?

Nice to hear you're amused. That's at least something even if not the intention.

Personal taste varies. For me 17" look too small and I'd only swap to this size to throw on some real semis for track use.

Maybe you don't see the difference but others obviously do. Did you buy your Clio because of the extraordinary ride quality it has? I didn't and with the H&R springs mine is so hard that it can pull tooth pluggings when going over the slightest hole in the road at some speed. I doubt a bit more rubber would actually change much in that direction.

The "bigger is always better" comment was a joke. Indicated by that little yellow thing behind the fullstop. Don't know what one has to do to make that any clearer?

The point of them is that they're something special. From what I know you can't actually buy them in any store and have to prove that you've one of the Renaults they originally came with to get new ones from them. I'm not sure and haven't tested if this actually gets enforced but that's at least what I've heard. At the time RS was working with Speedline only and I'm quite sure that both companies actually know what they're doing. That they were willing to add these rims that originally were only intended for the R26.R to certain version of the 200 is a great concession from RS.
